there is a spider in my room somewhere. i'm not sure where, but i know it's in there, because i saw it crawling over my quilt while i was reading in bed. i slapped at it with a magazine, but i never found any dead spider parts. strangely enough, i haven't had much trouble getting to sleep. i think i'm more bothered by ants. i have had several ( Read more... )

Laminectomy? He REMOVED two vertebrae? In performing a fusion, that means that he removed the disk between two vertebrae then used one of a variety of methods [titanium screws, bone fusions, cement fusions, osteo-adhesive fusions (held in a membranous sack), and many more] to fuse (permanently connect) the two vertebrae. There are several reasons for performing a fusion: to correct the abnormal positioning of a vertebra, to treat a fractured vertebra, or to relieve pain caused by a completely degenerated and herniated cervical disc.

How many more times are you going to shadow him, and is he going to allow you to follow him on his rounds and clinical practice as well as his OR visits?

Pay attention to the MRI and CT scans. Analyzing them is an art that is needed to be a modern day doctor.

yup, that's the word (laminectomy). what i remember from what he was explaining was that he removed one quadrant (or a word like that) which meant 2 vertebrae. he took bone stuff from one side of the pelvis and packed it in on either side of the spinal cord where he'd taken out the bones.

i get to shadow him for several weeks, and yes, i get to follow him on his rounds and in the clinic. i was in the clinic monday. 'twas fun. :) i also get to see my dad when i'm at the hospital.

Do you mean he removed the process? The process is the spikey dorsal projection of the spine.

Ahh, so he did a bone graft. Did he use a microscope with a monitor set up so that you could see the whole thing?
