Keeping up on the news over the internet means it takes a little while - first have the candy of MSNBC, then move onto CBC.ca, followed by SkyNews and finished up with a little AlJazeera.

So what is the solution? I'm a little lost... they are just caricatures. Why can't we publish them in Canada? I read both the links, I wasn't impressed with the first one being somewhat "aggressive", reminescant[sp?] of western cold-war ideas maybe, and the second using the islamic laws as an argumentative basis for the argument. I suppose it is true that a lot of critiques, independant articles and ideas can be published with bias against something ( ... )

the fact that protesters are allowed to congregate and denounce the cartoon images is exactly the reason that free speech should be defended....show it and its either accepted, or show it and people protest in the streets...if you start dictating what is right and what is wrong it gives mr bush and mr harper a free hand in saying what speech is acceptable and eventually which protests are acceptable...plus muslims arent allowed to show images of muhammed..the cartoonists are not muslims...what if every time a non flattering image of the pope or jesus was put out in a satirical/political way and it was violently denounced? every faction has a line they think you shouldnt cross.. ie: every funny thing we've ever seen mocking the catholic church's policy on child molestation? not quite an open forum is it? ...if artists and philosophers are to be hated for making a political statment then we all might as well nestle in the bosom of spears and aguilera and hunker down for a long winter of discontent...although, generally the west is a ( ... )

basically i like the fact i can show bush as a war happy ignorant racist, and the pope as a man who would rather give people aids than condoms. political satire. i like it. plus im an ass.

sorry, im on a tagent here...ive actually been concerned about this issue...someone asked me to do a cartoon about this during the heat of it all, but to just throw flames on the fire and get himself a name though contreversy, without content and i refused,,he hsant spoken to me since...but heres my idea....what if i did a painting of the big happy face guy, all yellow and "have a nice day" and titled it muhammed? is that blasphemous? or am i just a dick? again.
