Genre: Fluff
Pairing: Onew/Taemin
Rating: PG
Summary: Taemin is so used to waking up to Jinki lying beside him, that when Jinki was gone for almost two weeks, his bed just felt empty and incomplete.
A/N: This is my first attempt to write a SHINee slash fic so…please forgive me for anything odd or awkward that you may find here. ^^

Jinki has that habit of rolling over to Taemin’s bed at night, when all five members of SHINee are safe and sound in their shared room. No one’s complaining though. Jonghyun, Kibum, and Minho, treat this as a normal scenario in their dorm. Taemin, on the other hand, is so used to waking up to Jinki lying beside him, that when Jinki was gone for almost two weeks because he was diagnosed with swine flu, his bed just felt empty and incomplete. During those nights, four months ago, Taemin would wake up in the middle of the night, searching for that warm body that used to occupy half of his bed.

Hyung, get well soon~! We miss you already! These are the words that he usually types on his hand phone, sending it as an SMS to Jinki. He sends the same message almost every night, and he also gets the same reply; I will, Taeminnie. Thank you! I miss you too~ ^^

One night, the same thing happens: Taemin wakes up, unable to find Jinki lying beside him. Taemin looks at the single bed in the middle of the two bunk beds; there isn’t any sign of Jinki. “Jinki-hyung?” he calls out, quietly, but there is no reply. He decides to get out of bed and see if Jinki is in the living room. On his way to the living room, Taemin notices that there is light coming from the kitchen. “Hyung?” he calls out again, and he still doesn’t get a reply. When he reaches the kitchen, he sees Jinki sitting by the dining table, his head lowered. His eyes are closed, and there are highlighted pieces of paper scattered on the table.

Taemin picks up one of the papers on the table, and soon realizes that Jinki was practicing his lines for his upcoming musical before he fell asleep. He cannot help but smile at the perseverance and passion that his hyung puts into his new project. Looking at the mess in front of him, he decides to pick the pieces of paper and put them all together.

Jinki stirs, yawning.

“Hyung?” Taemin says, waving his hands in front of Jinki’s face.

Jinki rubs sleep off of his eyes, and manages a soft “Hmm?” as a reply to the maknae.

“I think you need some decent sleep,” Taemin tells him. He smiles as he hands the script back to Jinki.

“Thanks,” Jinki says, grinning, holding the script close to his chest. He then stands up and lets Taemin lead him to the bedroom. He instantly collapses on his bed, making Taemin chuckle quietly as he lies on his own bed.

Not long after they fall asleep, Taemin stirs and shifts on his bed, only to find himself face to face with Jinki. His smile reaches his eyes as he traces the face of his hyung with his finger, careful not to wake him up. Taemin’s heartbeat begins to gather up speed as his finger lands on Jinki’s lips. He feels a sudden urge to close the space between them and press his soft and innocent lips on those dry, chapped lips that belong to Jinki. When Taemin realizes that their faces are just about an inch apart, he pauses.

No…this isn’t right! He tells himself with conviction. He is just about to move away from Jinki when the latter unexpectedly stretches his arm and wraps it around Taemin’s waist, totally catching Taemin off-guard. Not only does Taemin’s heart skip a beat; his cheeks turn a light shade of red.

Jinki mumbles something like “It’s cold”, and tightens his grip on Taemin’s waist, unknowingly pulling Taemin closer to him; their foreheads are instantly glued together. Taemin sighs, his eyes still lingering between Jinki’s eyes and lips. He can feel Jinki’s warm breath touching his face every now and then. Then, finally realizing that he can’t and doesn’t want to pull away from him, Taemin closes his eyes and drifts to sleep, half wishing that that night won’t ever end.

The next nights are basically the same: Taemin sees to it that he finds Jinki right by his side whenever he wakes up at two or three o’clock in the morning. Something unexpected happens one morning though. Jinki opens his eyes, and he finds his arms comfortably wrapped around Taemin, his lips resting on the maknae’s pure ones. His eyes immediately widen, face flushing red, as he stumbles out of Taemin’s bed. Taemin stirs and finds Jinki sprawled on the floor.

“Ow,” Jinki says, rubbing his lower back as he sits back up.

“Hyung, are you okay?” Taemin asks worriedly, climbing out of bed, joining Jinki on the floor.

“I’m fine, I just slipped and fell on my back.” He slowly inches away from Taemin, as the maknae tries to reach out for him. He avoids any contact with Taemin as he gets on his feet.

Taemin blinks several times, wondering what seems to be the problem with Jinki. “Are you sure you’re okay, hyung?”

Jinki straightens up and fixes his shirt. “Yes. I’m…uh…I’m off to take a shower.” Without another word, he hastily digs into his closet for a new set of clothes, grabs his towel, and goes out, leaving a puzzled Taemin sitting on the floor.

Jinki splashes his face with ice cold water from the faucet once he locks himself up in the bathroom. What the hell was that? He wonders, staring at his reflection on the mirror. He remembers his heart skipping a beat when he found himself unknowingly locked in a kiss (if you can call it that) with Taemin. He holds on to his chest and realizes that his heart is still beating in an abnormally quick rate. What if I’m gay? What if I’ve fallen in love with Taemin? What if I accidentally kiss him again tonight? What if manager hyung finds out?

“Aish!” Jinki curses as he shakes off all these unwanted thoughts in his head. “This has to stop,” he tells himself. So he comes up with a plan: he’s going to start sleeping on the couch in the living room, and he will (if he can) avoid any close contact with Taemin.

Jinki carries on with his plan during the next few days. His band mates eventually start to notice this; Jinki acting all weird and unlike himself whenever Taemin’s around, Jinki avoiding Taemin whenever he is left alone with him, Jinki stuttering and quickly trying to escape when Taemin talks to him, Jinki sleeping in the living room instead of their bedroom. When Kibum has had enough of this drama, he decides to confront their leader, and he lets Jonghyun tag along.

They’re in the dance studio, just a few minutes after practicing their new steps and choreography. Jinki is seated on the floor, his back to the huge mirror, water bottle in hand. He wipes the sweat on his face with the towel that hung on his shoulder. Kibum and Jonghyun corner him, making sure Jinki won’t be able to escape them.

“Jinki-hyung,” Jonghyun starts. “We need to talk to you.” He sits on the foor, right in front of Jinki, and Kibum does the same.

“Okay,” Jinki replies. “What about?” He lifts the plastic bottle to his lips and starts to drink.

“Taemin,” Kibum says simply.

Jinki chokes, almost spitting out the water he’s drinking. “Taemin…?”

“Yes, Taemin. Our maknae, Taemin.” Kibum raises an eyebrow at their leader.

“And what’s up with the choking?” Jonghyun asks, sounding suspicious.

Jinki replies with a weak smile. “What about Taemin?”

“Well,” Kibum begins, “we’ve noticed that you’re awkward around him. And you’re avoiding him. Which is weird because you seem comfortable with rolling over to his bed, and the two of you always wake up cuddling each other. And you don’t sleep in our room anymore.”

Before Jinki can react, Jonghyun speaks. “Taemin’s all ‘did I do anything wrong’ now. He keeps asking us, and he’s really worried, hyung. He won’t stop pestering us. Minho has been complaining about it too. It’s a good thing that he doesn’t talk too much, so he can easily ignore Taemin’s nagging.”

“But Jjong and I are different,” Kibum continues, making Jinki’s attention shift from Jonghyun to him. “So tell us what’s wrong, hyung, or we’ll suffer forever if this nagging doesn’t stop now.”

Jinki blinks, not knowing what to say. It takes a while before he manages to say anything. “But he didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just-”

“Please talk to him, okay?” With those words, Kibum ends the conversation, and he goes away with Jonghyun, leaving a baffled Jinki behind.

It takes about a week for Jinki to gather up his courage and finally have the guts to confront Taemin. After the, well, that accident. Jinki doesn’t know if he’s lucky or not, but Kibum and Jonghyun purposely left the dorm, making an excuse that they’re going shopping since it’s their free day. Minho, on the other hand, is scheduled to have recording for Dream Team that day.

It’s around seven in the evening, and Jinki just finished rehearsing with his co-actors for the ongoing musical "Hey Bro". He sends a message to Taemin before stepping into the van that will take him back to their dorm.

Taemin-ah, I’m on my way home.
I brought dinner!
See you in a bit~ ^^

Jinki heaves a sigh as he settles at the backseat of the van; the words “Everything will turn out fine” are on repeat in his mind. He lets his eyelids droop for a moment, and when he opens his eyes, he’s already in front of the apartment building where their dorm is located. He thanks the road manager for taking him home safely, and he heads straight to their dorm.

Taemin is busy doing his homework in the living room when Jinki arrives. He doesn’t bother looking up, except when Jinki sits on the carpeted floor, right beside him.

“Er…hi,” Jinki starts off. “I brought dinner. Did you get my message?”

Taemin blinks and stalls for about half a minute before speaking. “Yeah, thanks hyung. I’m just…going to finish this, then we can eat.”

Jinki patiently waits for Taemin to give up on his homework first, but he figures out that he won’t, so Jinki gives up and sighs. “Taemin.” His voice sounded firm and determined, but he doesn’t get a response from the maknae.

It takes five more minutes before Taemin says something. “I’m done!” he says, rather happily, as he closes his notebooks and books, and piles them neatly on the table.

“Taemin,” Jinki repeats, his voice stronger and louder this time.

Taemin turns to look at Jinki, eyes blank and uninterested. “What is it, hyung?”

Jinki takes a deep breath. “We need to talk…seriously.”

Taemin notices the hint of anxiousness in the leader’s voice. His lips slowly form into a crescent-shaped smile as he pats Jinki on the shoulder. “After dinner, hyung. I know you’re hungry too. Come on.”

“Fine,” Jinki says in defeat. “After dinner it is.”

So the moment they finish eating dinner, Taemin and Jinki head towards the kitchen to put their plates in the sink.

“I’ll wash the dishes,” Taemin says, grabbing the apron from the kitchen cupboard. “You clean the table, hyung.”

Jinki sighs impatiently, knowing that Taemin is punishing him by doing all this nonsense. He cannot wait any longer, so he grabs Taemin by the hand and pushes him a bit too hard against the kitchen counter. He holds him firmly by the shoulders. “Taemin,” he starts, breathing heavily as he looks at Taemin straight in the eye. “I’m sorry, okay? I’m sorry if I made you think you did something wrong. You didn’t do anything. It’s just… I’m not- I don’t-”

“Hyung,” Taemin says calmly as he holds Jinki’s face with his right hand, rubbing his thumb against his soft and fluffy cheeks. “Relax. I’m not angry or anything.”

Jinki shivers slightly at Taemin’s touch, and his heart skips a beat or two. His train of thought begins to malfunction, but nevertheless he tries to keep intact. “I don’t want you to think that I dislike you…or that I don’t like being with you. I’m just not used to showing affection to you or to any of the other members… And I don’t want anyone to think that I’m gay because I think like you and there are just so many issues… I don’t know what to do if manager hyung finds out and what if-”

Before Jinki can even finish what he’s saying, Taemin’s lips are already pressed on his own. Taemin ignores Jinki’s attempts at pushing him away, moaning, making silent protests, and makes him fall deeper into the kiss. It is only a matter of seconds before Jinki gives in, following the rhythm of his and Taemin’s heartbeats.

Taemin whispers “I like you too, hyung” halfway into the kiss, and he feels Jinki’s lips forming into a smile.

Jonghyun, Kibum, and Minho walk into the kitchen, stunned to see their leader and the maknae locked in an embrace, and a long, sweet kiss.

“OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL” Kibum says loudly, holding onto Jonghyun as he tries to regain his lost balance.

Minho chuckles and makes a quick escape to the living room.

“These two…they drive me nuts,” Jonghyun says to no one in particular. He rolls his eyes as he places Kibum’s arm around his shoulders, and they follow Minho to the living room.

Jinki and Taemin break into silent laughter as they pull away from each other. Taemin goes to the sink and begins his dishwashing duty, while Jinki wipes the table and later on helps Taemin with the dishes. When the two of them make their way to their room, they find the other three members fast asleep in their own bunks.

“They must be really tired,” Jinki says quietly as he settles himself on his bed.

Taemin sits on his bed bunk, and thinks carefully about what he’s about to say. He looks at Jinki, who’s already saying his good night prayers. He’s about to pull the blankets and cover his entire body, up to his head, when Taemin suddenly speaks. “Jinki-hyung,” he says softly.

“Hmm?” Jinki replies, halfway through pulling the covers over himself.

“Can I…sleep with you tonight?” Taemin waits for Jinki to laugh real hard on this one, but he doesn’t.

Jinki smiles brightly at Taemin as he makes space for him to lie on. Taemin grins happily as he squeezes himself beside Jinki. Jinki moves closer to Taemin, and he pulls him into a warm hug. Taemin rests his head on the leader’s chest and enjoys feeling and hearing the lub-dub of the latter’s heart.

“Good night, hyung…” Taemin whispers, looking up at Jinki.

“Good night, Taemin,” Jinki replies, smiling brightly once again. He plants a kiss on Taemin’s forehead before he closes his eyes and drifts to sleep. Taemin follows suit, secretly wishing, although Jinki knows well in his heart, that time would stop and let this night last forever.

P.S.: Comments will be very much appreciated. Thank you~! :) Also...this fic is unbeta-ed. :D
