6. Final Fantasy - This is the Dream of Win & Regine (from the Academic Hell Mix, yes!)
10. The Decemberists - We Both Go Down Together
20. What Becomes of the Brokenhearted - I'm thinking the Four Tops but I'm probably wrong
23. I think this is a Blues Brothers song...
24. The Decemberists - Sixteen Military Wives

5 points for you.... and a good hint on the sixth.

And as a prize, both for guessing and actually downloading my mixtape last spring (there's perhaps another on the way this weekend, btw, the video for "This is the Dream of Win and Regine"

Nice work steve... 7 out of 8. sadly, #25 is a far inferior song to anything mr. declan mcmanus ever dreamed up.

for you, two things, only because one was promised earlier. first, the mp3
of jon brion performing life on mars as a fats waller song. second, a video of the same man performing radiohead's 'creep' as tom waits:

I didn't know who sang it (until I saw Steve's answers, that is), but do I get at least half a point for recognizing 7? I heard the song on The Impact a few weeks back. I liked it. I feel like I could adopt that as a motto.

for the mountain goats, liz?

a full point, as well as this fairly awesome music video for what has to be one of the most beautifully depressing songs ever recorded:

i strongly reccomend procuring more of his stuff via myself or steve... the man is nothing short of brilliant.

I got The Sunset Tree (plus Woke Up New) on iTunes, and I can't lie, I'm basically loving this guy right now.

:D glad to have a convert... i have the rest of "get lonley" if you're interested, but i will warn you that it's one of the saddest albums i've ever heard.

honestly, im impressed... no clue you knew any of these.... though thinking back, i do remember you admitting to ganking all my Billy Bragg stuff off iTunes last year ;)

hmm.... what video as a reward? let's go with the new one from hellogoodbye because (a) its at a summer camp, (b) they play pogs (i kid you not) and (c) it somehow manages to add to the question of why I like this band to begin with while answering it at the same time

yup... i knew it would have to be you to get that (though I'm suprised you let #4 slip by

anyhow, here's what has to be the coolest video ever for "Lazer Beam," proving once again that this band is criminally underrated
