so I just looked up all the movies currently playing in New York on the Village Voice. I've narrowed down the list to the top picks that I want to see. I hope to get through my list in the next month (or possibly two months, cause at a month that's an average of 2 movies a week). Loosly prioritized (primarily based on how many screens are showing ( Read more... )

Broken Flowers is good, because Bill Murray rules. Apart from that it's a little slow moving, but still worth seeing.

I also totally want to see The Squid and the Whale, The Constant Gardener, and Capote. I would also like to see A History of Violence, but only because Pat says it will be good.

The others I haven't heard of, because I live im the middle of the country, besides Oliver Twist which I don't care much about one way or the other, but I do want to see Wallace and Gromit's movie, which you probably don't care much about.

Movies are good. If you get to see The Baxter, see it: it's with all the guys from the State (or lots of them), it is AWESOME. At the Tivoli for only one week, and I totally caught it. Go me!

I love Billy Murray's later work, and I read a great profile of Jim Jarmusch in the NYTimes Magazine (err, 2+ months ago); I can't believe I still haven't checked it out (thus, at the top of my list

I'm excited that The Squid and the Whale takes place in my new neighborhood.

I won't knock Wallace and Gromit, but I don't tend to be motivated to see claymation movies on my own. I'm often pleased when someone takes me to them, though. The fact that I still haven't seen The Nightmare Before Christmas says a lot (though it's on my Netflix queue now.)

Thanks for the head up. The Baxter is now on my list. I don't remember The State; it's a tv show from the 90s?(based on my quick web research). What station did it play on?

Broken Flowers: good.
Grizzly Man: will probably be on my Netflix queue when it comes out.
2046: very intrigued by this one, but might wait until DVD.
Separate Lies: don't know this one.
The Squid and the Whale: not sure if I know this one either.
The Constant Gardener: very good.
A History of Violence: interestingly enough, my dad was talking about wanting to see this, which is a good sign.
Capote: eh.
Oliver Twist: not interested.

Separate Lies stars Tom Wilkinson, whom I loved in In The Bedroom ; his billing is the main reason for my interst. Emily Watson is an excellent actress, too. The plot involves a wife's infidelity in an English couple's marriage. I've been seeing adds on NYTimes for the past month or so.

The Squid the Whale was just released her on Friday. I'm sure it's on it's way to the Tivoli, etc.

The only reason I'm interested in Oliver Twist is because Roman Polanski directed.
