I recently read someone's comment that in their mind the Bush administration is becoming a "communist dictatorship." I paused at the inaccuracey of the statement, and began to wonder what label I would offer instead... is "facist dictatorship" more appropriate?

There is a lot that could be said on this subject, but I'll leave my commentary at this: be careful throwing around the "f" word in moderate circles (moderate being what most Americans who think they're liberal actually are), no matter how accurately it may apply in this set of circumstances. It will get you labelled all sorts of nasty things that will make you seem irrational and "knee-jerk," one of the right's favorite spin terms. Fascism has gone the wayside of equally once-useful and meaningful terms such as "racism" and "feminist" that have picked up so much extra baggage over the years that have nothing to do with their actual definitions, that they can probably only be relegated at this point to the dinosaur shelf of the lingustic storage center. Sad, but so it goes.
