I wouldn't say it's out of control. I guess you could argue that I'm biased, but I'd say that an out-of-control ego means not knowing your limitations. Being motivated to be the best isn't a problem as long as you don't think that gives you an excuse to lord it over others, or think that you're better than you actually are.

Chalk the whole thing up to the over literalness of internet communication. Dry humor is just lost. This whole thing would have been much simpler if we'd been in the same room rather than two separate countries.
