i bet the weirdness of the glenridge/285 interchange fucked them over; namely, the way the left turn lane glenridge northbound splits off to the left. it doesn't excuse their idiocy; only explains it.
if you come out to where i grew up you'll find US-78 with reversible lanes (left lane changes depending on time of day); no one except my dad and i apparently understand them and memorize the pattern.
people are stupid. and yes, that person needs a shotgun-sidekick blast to the face.
UGH GUH UGH!! When I took defensive driving over on 78, the lady teaching it was talking about the reversibvle lane system on 78 (which is hiddeously marked). She asked what the best way was to deal with that. I answered, start in the rightmost or next to rightmost lane until you can confirm the status of the next lane over. No, her answer was "memorize the timing." Which is a handy thing to do, but not necessarily something to rely upon at 2 am.
