A Special Project, please read...

I have a very exciting project that I’m working on, and I’m hoping that all of my friends can help me to make this a success. It involves nothing more than opening your heart to a very special little girl.

I met an amazing family through my Chris Daughtry obsession, and part of this family is a girl named Jenessa (also known as Boey). She is a 7 year old who is currently fighting very rare childhood cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. Boey is definitely THE toughest little warrior I have ever seen, and probably the biggest Chris Daughtry fan I have ever met. For her whole story, PLEASE visit her website (www.jenessabyers.com). Once you read more about Boey, I think you’ll fall in love with her as much as I have.

Pediatric cancer is something that has been, and always will be, close to my heart. And this family is simply incredible. The fight they have, the love they express, and the battles they are fighting, day in and day out, are simply unfathomable. Over the past few months, I’ve grown very attached to the whole Byers family, and I desperately wanted to do something to help.

Which brings me to my “Running for Boey” project. I am running the BAA Half Marathon on October 8, 2006. I decided that I’m going to run this race in honor of my favorite little warrior, Boey. I have sent out a singlet I will wear on race day for Boey to decorate, which I am sooo excited about!! My goal is to bring more awareness to pediatric cancer, and to help out the Byers family, as Boey is enduring all of her chemo treatments. I’m not training/racing through any special program, I am simply running a race in honor of the toughest little girl I know.

I’m asking all of my friends to open their hearts to this special family. There is a program called Sparrow Clubs (www.sparrowclubs.org), which provides emotional and financial support for critically ill children and their families. It is an amazing program, and I suggest you reading about it. I’m asking each and every one of you to please donate a few dollars towards Boey and her family. It’s a tax deductible donation, and the Byers family will receive 100% of the funds. This will go towards medical treatments for Boey, transportation to and from the hospital for treatments, etc. This link will take you straight to the donation page (http://www.sparrowclubs.org/What_Is_A_Sparrow/How_Can_I_Help/default.aspx).

I don’t ask for money often, and when I do, it’s for something I’m very passionate about. As a mother myself, I can’t imagine what it’s like to endure something like this. I’m not asking for people to donate large amounts of money - every dollar helps out this awesome family. Maybe skip eating dinner out tonight, and put that money towards this special little girl, and her phenomenal family.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this. I will be sure to post pictures of the decorated singlet once I get it back from Boey, and you know I’ll be posting pictures of race day on October 8th!

I thank you all from the bottom of my heart,

Meaghan
