[vocaloidressing] steel

KAITO was out and about, looking around the dressing room again. It's not like he had much else to do, with everyone else gone and (presumably) wandering around as well. He had no real direction or goal this time; he wasn't looking out for another new, human arrival or a Vocaloid that he might've known before. This time, he was just taking a stroll, enjoying the sight of the changing seasons and the sound of other people doing the same.

When he closed his eyes, it felt just like home. Like the way it used to be. Like nothing had ever changed at all.

It was a little stone that brought him back to reality. All it took was that one stone to trip him, abruptly pulling him out of his thoughts.

In hindsight, he probably should've expected something like this to happen. He was, after all, a KAITO.

Blindly, he stumbled and grasped for something to re-balance himself. He managed to grab at a large, old tree with rough bark. His body, however, did not follow the hand. KAITO fell forward, feeling his grip slip as he landed on his knees. It was... embarrassing, to say the least. Not that he wasn't used to it, but tripping over virtually nothing was such a dumb move. He picked himself back up and brushed his pants off. (Oh, dignity. He already missed it.)

He paused when he felt something strange snag his pants, almost like a burr. When he looked down, he realized it was his own hand. His own finger, to be precise. The metal.

The metal...! He turned to look at the tree, the part that he grabbed. The rough edges of the bark had snagged some of the fragile 'skin' from his fingers. The fall chipped at the tips, resulting in the loss of a joint. Without the joint, there was nothing holding the pieces together, and the hard landing made it fall apart.

He was broken. After all this time of stiff joints and jerky motions, he finally managed to break.

KAITO stood up and hid his hand in his coat. Jogging, he returned to the home he was staying in and tended to his hand, wrapping flesh-colored bandages around it in an attempt to cover it. Hopefully, the human Kaito wouldn't notice it immediately. It was a lot to ask for, but he didn't want the man to be concerned. He didn't want the little robot to notice, either. Even he didn't want to see it -- the corroded metal that stared back at him like a terrible reminder. He didn't want to think about it.

No... KAITO didn't want to break yet. Not yet. He was still... he still wanted to stay here longer, talk to people more, and see another full season. Later, later, maybe when he was ready, then it'd be all right. But not now, not when he'd just found a place to be.

Just a little longer.
