btw...im going to florida in mid feb. So has anyone been to florida? hows the camping situation there? and if anyone knows...whats the temp there? i plan on going there from New York in mid Feb!
no im going to montreal for two weeks from jan 29th till mid feb 12th...then on feb 13th to feb 17th i'll be in New York...then on the 18th i'll be heading to Florida to camp for a month...seeing as camping is alot cheeper than paying $25 a night hostelling. so overall a return train ticket from new york to florida and back would be cheeper than paying that 25/night for a month in montreal. after that im back to montreal for another few weeks before returning home :)
It depends where you're going in Florida. In February it can be anywhere from the mid-50s to the mid-70s (that's about 12-22 Celsius). And it'll vary a bit depending on where in the state you are, with Miami and the Keys (southern tip) generally being warmer than Orlando or even Daytona.
Do remember that Florida is very much "the south" and some of those stereotypes to apply... It's hard to remember that when you're in Miami (and they don't really apply to Miami), but Pensacola, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, etc, are amzingly "southern". (I'm just saying that by way of a warning for a young-fag-lookin' type such as yourself, traveling solo. So be careful.)
Also, since it doesn't necessarily get cold there, it does, however, have hazards other than rednecks to worry about. DO NOT camp near water....or you might find yourself face to face with an 8 foot hissing reptile that wants you for breakfast...take lots of bug spray...the various biting bugs will eat you alive if the gators don't. Don't camp under elephant palms....unless of course you like getting swarmed by yellow jackets and blue hornets. Don't camp on the beach...it's illegal. oh...and don't let the daytime temp fool you....if a storm comes rollin' up it'll get quite cold fast. oh, before I forget......don't camp on the ground or in a tent....there are fire ants in most of Florida....if you accidentaly disturb a mound, or block a backdoor, you can get swarmed...they can kill you with their bites during a swarm. Stay to well established campgrounds...preferably with either concrete pads, or wood platforms for tents.
