What is your budget and what do you want out of the digicam? I have a Canon SD400 (you saw it at TWH). I like it because of it's small size and nice metal casing (I'm a klutz and wanted something pretty sturdy). Uses SD memory and takes pretty good pics and video in a small package.
If you're after better indoor/dark shots, you aren't going to find it in the subcompacts. I find this little camera does best with outdoor shots or anywhere it doesn't need to use a flash. Otherwise, pictures are either washed out (when using flash) or too dark (when not).
A friend uses the RAZR and loves the geekiness of all it can do, but the hinge broke on her after only a month. I've stuck to the candy-bar style phones because, again, I'm a klutz. Fewer moving parts is always a good thing for me.
Forgot to add you can go here for way more information on digital cameras. You might get information overload, but overall I've found it an excellent resource when shopping for digicams.
Heh. Candy-bar just refers to it not having a hinge, like most of the Nokia line. Some people love them. Some people hate them. I'd break a flip-phone too easily. :o
Don't buy the RAZR!!! I just talked to a Verizon guy who is a good friend of my father-in-law and he told me that nearly half the people who get that phone return it because it has a very short battery life.
I don't know much else. I have a verizon phone that I like. It's very simple to use and has a great battery life.
As for camera's I have a Minolta digital which is wonderful. It really depends on how much you are willing to spend for the higher clarity (mega pixels - think of it as dots per inch) - how close can you zoom and still keep sharp details. The higher the number the better. Remember to set a side a few bucks for accessories. Memory card - The ones that come with the camera hold very few pictures. YOu will want a better one. ALso - Carrying case, extra batteries (you must get recharageables) and so on.
Hope this helped.
Congrats by the way. That's a nice little boost. :o)
Awesome. I'm glad to know that about the RAZR. The glittery marketing campaign nearly mystified me but I'm glad you are here to prevent that from happening.
I definitely need to do more research on both. Thanks for the info on the camera.
... I have the RAZR and love it. LOVE IT. I don't have issues with the battery because I'm militant about keeping my phone charged. Don't know anything about hinge issues; I haven't had a single problem with mine -- unless you count the fact that bling accessories are more money than I want to pay. ;)
There might indeed be phones better suited to your style, but I couldn't let this thread with all the RAZR bashing go without a response. o__O ...
Excellent. I just want to have a cool phone because I'm a stylish geek (or, I try to be). ;) Glad to hear the RAZR is working out for you. I would probably be good at keeping it charged as well, and I'm really not a big cell talker anyway, so I want something that will last a while. :)
Common sense stuff that really is no help:wildebethMarch 27 2006, 14:08:38 UTC
I can't recommend Sony enough. I have a Kodak digital camera (has been discontinued, don't know the specs anyway), and while it's fabulous, everything Dave buys is Sony. They are known as a superior brand for a reason.
As for cell phones, I would just go for the best thing you carrier has to offer. The deals aren't always deals, so check places like www.epinions.com to compare. Also, check Circuit City and Best Buy's websites. They tend to rate their products. Oh, and Amazon.
I can make Dave help you out if you get stuck and no one else can help. He is a whiz at electronic devices.

Eh, he's useful. :P I've already recruited him to acquire, set up, and teach my parents a semi-complicated software problem in a way that they will understand how to use it.
Congratulations on your bonus! I can't recommend anything, as I myself am back to saving pocket change (like I did for TWH) in order to eventually buy a digital camera. We've got an ancient, low-end one that doesn't work anymore and weighs about 3 lb. Ugh.

Candy-bar style? Does that refer to the width? LOL.
