Whispered as I was placed in your arms.

“I’ve got you,”
You’d call when I was scared.

“A hug goodbye,”
That before you left for work.

“Your mom’s clumsy,”
The reason for her bruises you said.

“Get back here!”
Yelled through the car window when we left.

“Maybe next weekend,”
Heard those days I was to see you.

“I’ll be there,”
Your promise
