The Reign of Terror (5 September 1793 - 28 July 1794) or simply The Terror (French: la Terreur) was a period of about 12 months during the French Revolution when struggles between rival factions led to mutual radicalization which took on a violent character with mass executions by the guillotine

This is a little different. I mean, a reign of terror is a reign of terror, but they honestly believed they were doing the right thing. It seems like Loputous knows he's doing the "bad" thing, at least in the eyes of the humans, and doesn't really care. The thing about the French Revolution is that they so strongly believed that they needed to pursue those drastic actions.
