Something really messed up happened to me! Okay, so I was supposed to move into my apartment July 16th in Campbell. Well, I called my apartment manager, Alla, and told her that I wouldn't be back for another 2 weeks from Arizona (August 2nd) and she said it was fine. Then she calls back two days ago and leaves a message telling me to call back but didn't say it was urgent or anything. I called back yesterday and left a message saying I wouldn't be back until August 3rd because I had to rest from driving so long. I get a call today in the morning, she says "I have bad news for you. I've rented your apartment. You still need to pay the month's rent and I'll give you part of the deposit back." What the hell? It's my apartment! Either way, she'll get money! Now I have no place to live and it's so hard to find a place to live in the Silicon Valley! Especially since I just turned 18 recently and my Dad that has to sign the contract with me in out of the country! I've never even SEEN the room and she won't give me the deposit and I have to pay for the FULL month's rent? She didn't even WARN me! Now I'm trying to find out if she can legally do that. Does anyone know who could help? I need help! Please, any advice or anything? Thanks.
P.S. It was a month-to-month lease and I don't have a copy of the contract yet. My Dad put it somewhere and I can't get a hold of him too well since he's somewhere in Latin America. Please someone help. This is completely messed up. She didn't give me a warning or anything! Is this legal?
P.S.S. Sorry this was really roughly written but I'm just very frustrated.
