Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.
After a super-busy week at work, the parents came into town for a long weekend, so I've been out working and/or playing tourist for the last six days. (Apologies to the flist; I'm horribly behind.)
International Spy Museum -- Heavy on the cheese factor, but they've also got a lipstick gun, so it all evens out. Stop by the gift shop, the
Revolutionaries Finger Puppets are not to be missed.
National Archives -- Confirmation that I am the biggest nerd ever. I nearly squealed when I saw Marbury v. Madison.
The Jefferson Memorial -- Still my favorite.
The FDR Memorial -- Note to all damn tourists: it's a bread line. It's tragic. Stop taking your $*%^#@%& pictures lined up behind it.
The WWII Memorial -- Gorgeous, ornate, not as moving as Vietnam, but what is? Great job integrating it into the landscape.
Vietnam Memorial -- It's half-blocked off at the moment, but still gut-wrenching.
Korean War Memorial -- Anyone else spooked by this after dark?
Natural History Museum -- The geology exhibit never ceases to amaze me. This is my third or fourth time through the whole thing, and I'm still transfixed.
American History Museum -- Didn't see too much, the feet had given out.
Botanical Gardens -- Short and lovely. Check out the orchid room.
Also, it's Restaurant Week in DC, so I'm living it up. I had the best coffee of my life last night at Vidalia. (Yeah, yeah, the food was amazing, too. But the coffee!)
I have learned three things:
1. DC is my favorite city ever.
2. I will probably never walk normally again.
3. I am the biggest sap ever.
CIAchick711 and
carrielynnobu accuse me of having a cold, black, empty heart (long story short: nothing fictional makes me cry), but plunk me down in front of a memorial, and I'm a wreck.
This was too good not to post:
Hee! Separated at birth, my dear. (Now, which one of us is lying about her age?)
And, last but certainly not least, Happy Birthday
alikona727! I wish you your very own VaughnClone.
