Alright, now that that's out of the way I'm sure there's one question on your minds. How do Pokémon breed? Well, we don't know! And neither will you, sadly. Try and try as you might, be the biggest voyeur you can (in the name of SCIENCE we hope), you will never witness the process of breeding. Pokémon are very secretive creatures in this manner, no one has EVER seen how or where the egg comes from. Simply leave two Pokémon alone for a long enough period of time and if they match up and like each other, then you'll find a Pokémon egg there waiting for you! Or maybe more than one. Be careful of that, leave them alone for too long and you might find more than you bargained for! Better jump on the STF and get those eggs homes ASAP!

Now, a little more on eggs in general. First of all is hatching time of course. The weaker or more common the Pokémon is, the faster they'll hatch. The more rare or powerful the Pokémon is, the longer it'll take. Now, we don't mean level of the parents of course! No, this is like comparing a Magikarp to a Dratini. It's the base stats that matter here. A Magikarp egg for instance could hatch in only FIVE DAYS, it's a raising slope from there so be patient!

Eggs have a higher chance of being the same species as the female, but it's also not too uncommon for it to be the same as the male. There's a variety of things that can be inherited. Moves are a big thing, with certain ones being known even when the newborn Pokémon first hatches. Stats are another thing, though that gets a bit more complicated so we won't go into it here. There's also the chance of the Pokémon getting the abilities of the mother or the nature of the father, you never know what you're going to get! Also, if at least one of the parents is a Shiny Pokémon, there's a 1/64 chance that the egg will contain a shiny as well.

Now, let's get more into that Poffin kit we mentioned earlier!

Poffins

Your kit is going to include some very important items to get you started! These include:

Poffin Cookbook

Portable stove

Berries (x20 Rawst, x30 Cheri, x20 Pecha, x20 Chesto, x20 Aspear)

Small berry cutting knife, strong enough to take on even the hardest berry skin!

Poffin pot and spoon

Cooling sheet

Poffins are made in just a few easy steps, but they're also very easy to mess up so be careful!

Cut off the parts of the berry that aren't edible then make sure no piece is larger than an inch. Some of the bigger berries may need to be cut down as well.

Pour the berries into cold water and begin stirring over medium heat, the berries natural properties will begin to mix.

Make sure to stir slowly at first, you don't want to spill! But not too slowly or it might burn!

Once the mixture starts to thicken a bit, you can stir a little faster but still make sure to be careful not to spill anything.

The mixture will start to take on a doughy substance, stir faster until the poffins are complete!

Once the mixture is done cooking, use the spoon to scoop out the dough and place balls of it on the cooling sheet.

And then you wait! One pot usually takes about 15-20 berries, depending on the size of the berry. Smaller berries will need greater quantity while you can get more from the larger ones. One pot can make up to 15 poffins if you use level scoops when placing the dough on the cooling pan. Feel free to mix and match for unique tastes, but be careful since not all Pokémon have the same flavor preferences. You'll need to experiment a little and see just what kind your Pokémon enjoy!

What are these things for anyways? Well, to make your Pokémon look better of course! The more good poffins a Pokémon eats, their fur will take on a nice little sheen and be smoother to the touch. Certain flavors also raise up certain natural traits in Pokémon as well, a must for contest participants!

Bitter --> Smart
Spicy --> Cool
Sweet --> Cute
Dry --> Beauty
Sour -->Tough

One poffin can raise multiple traits depending on the berries used to make it, so be sure to look through your cookbook for great ideas!

Now how about we move onto the final step in breeding, the part that proves that Breeders can be just as fiercely competitive and determined as Trainers.

Pokémon Contests

A special competition for Breeders where their Pokémon are judged on their appearance and performances. There's four possible ranks (Normal, Great, Ultra and Master) and five possible categories (Cool, Beauty, Cute, Smart and Tough) to choose from. In order to get into the higher ranks though, a Pokémon MUST have a ribbon from the rank below it. Contests are fairly simple, and have four places in two sections where a Pokémon will be judged.

Visual

Condition: Your Pokémon is shown in front of the crowd, how well it's received by the people determine how many points you gain. If your Pokémon matches the contest it's in, it has a higher chance of getting more points. (This is where your poffins come in handy!)

Dress up: You will take your Pokémon to a private dressing room and be given a few accessories to work with along with a theme you must try to match. Of course, you're also free to bring your own accessories which is highly encouraged and gives you a better chance of impressing the crowd. Once you have your Pokémon dressed up as you find fitting, they will once again be presented to the crowd for it's approval. How well you managed to match the theme and how good the outfit is determines how many points you get in this section.

Physical

Dancing: Yes, dancing. Here your Pokémon must show just how well it can lead and how well it can follow. Each Pokémon in the contest will have one chance to go in the front and do it's own short dance, the Pokémon behind it must copy the moves after it's done. The key here is having a creative enough dance to try and make it impossible for the others to match perfectly when making your own, and for your Pokémon to be sharp enough to not be tripped up by others attempts to do the same. Points are awarded for how well a Pokémon follows the steps, and how bad the others did while trying to mimic it. Basically, if your Pokémon follows perfectly they get a high score, and if other Pokémon have trouble following it's dance then that's also a high score. Don't try to get silly though, the dance still has to look good!

Acting: This is where your Pokémon's moves come in handy. On your turn must instruct your Pokémon to preform certain moves. Contest-specific moves (i.e. a tough move in a tough contest) will increase the points you gain here. There's five rounds of this competition, you get one turn per round. Certain moves can startle or falter other Pokémon, so keep those in mind and be careful! Make sure you know what you're doing to impress those judges.

At the end of all the sections, all the points will be tallied up and the Pokémon with the most points wins! There's prizes and ribbons for Pokémon who got the top three places.
