Trade advertisement?

The problem we have is that there are no potential network buyers of Seeker, right? Or at least not willing to pay ABC's asking price. I do believe that ABC were trying to shop it around, I mean they did pay a lot for the SoT rights, but obviously they haven't succeeded thus far.

X-posted from my journal - Someone suggested I post this here in case there are any marketing savvy people who have much more knowledge than I do about this subject.

I totally snurched this from the Jericho fandom, btw. I don't take any credit for the idea. But I'm hearing now it's been proven successful in many other fandoms.

I've seen around the net that fans are donating to that Season 3 petition to get it shown on the homepage of petitionspot. Which made me think:

Has anyone thought of pulling a Jericho and buying a page in Variety or The Hollywood Reporter?

The potential network buyers are industry insiders and while they may be hearing about the cancellation and/or fan campaign, the world they live in is a small industry and these two are the newspapers of record. The concept is a marketing angle to show the potential buyers that we are very serious, dedicated and are voting with our wallets to speak to them within their own industry circles. No-one can deny that money talks.

This would definitely draw attention to the show in the media world and create a buzz in the industry in the vehicle that is read by the executives, artists, money people, affiliates, sales personnel and the marketing peeps. The purpose of the ad can be two-fold; to thank the cast, crew and all those who made Seeker possible and to demonstrate to potential networks the depth of the fans loyalty.

The price for a full page advert in the Variety is around $6,815, and in The Hollywood Reporter around $3,000 - and I know we only have a few million viewers, but if you think about it, there are over 1000 members in this comm alone, and loads of other fans on forums and sites outside of LJ. I think it would easily be less than $10 from each for us to reach that 6000 target. This is what Jericho's looked like.

IMO it will get us even more attention than emails or letters to ABC - this is a message to the takers who control the decision for the renewal: the cable networks. If the rest of you think this is a potentially good idea, I'm willing to do whatever I can to organize this campaign, but any help would be appreciated if you have the time and any expertise.
