well, not to be a downer, but one of them could die...(I assume you're talking about your novel when I say this...if you are by chance talking about nursing home ministry, please disregard the death idea...) Of course death might be an extremely complicated issue for you to tackle in a book...but it would also bring in some deep issues and perhaps profound meaning or learning... They could also go on a day trip; I think nursing homes have those. When my grandma lived in assisted living, she went on a day trip or two. Some of the residents load into a van and go out for a day of sight seeing around town - it's no big deal, but it gets them out of the place for the afternoon. (Of course a nursing home atendant drives)(And my grandma did say that the windows in the van were small and hard to see out of) Other than that, her days were pretty consistant and filled with those activities you already mentioned. Yes, I'm planning on one of them dying toward the end of the book. A day trip is a good idea. I could even have one of them griping about the little windows during the trip. I haven't talked about their church services yet either. Right now the setting is summertime, but maybe I should have a 4th of July party, fireworks, wouldn't that be fun!
i would have a constant underlying battle with the squirrels at the bird feeder outside my window. I hate those darn squirrels, always eating all the seeds intended for the birds! Dirty, low crawling vermin! Just wait til i get my nephew's water gun. When there's little to do, you got to find your victories and nemisi somewhere...
