NEED A BODY OR TWO WEDNESDAY LATE AFTERNOON / EVENING.

Jul 19, 2009 22:28

I have other things to write about, but first and foremost - If anyone has an hour (Probably less) to spare the plan is to load my stuff into a small 10 ft. truck on Wednesday around 5 P.M..  I chose that time because at that time in Palisades it will be cooler and the workers who are finishing the place will more than likely have left for the day ( Read more... )

Yeah, that would be rough on ya.. trying to navigate PCH during your break and rush hour just for a few minutes... probably not necessary. Will get back to ya! Thank you!

I will say one thing...if new jobs are popping up every week....I would be very cautious....in this economy that is -turnover- not new expanding jobs.

So -why- are those dealers all leaving?

Well.. I see your point there, but I actually don't care why the jobs exist so long as I get my shot at being independent again.

I guess my thinking now is that I don't have the luxury of playing it safe anymore. Playing it safe is almost certain to keep me unemployed for several more months at least and at best get me back to a scrape-by income (Under $40K more than likely) if I do find something. The dealer thing does have the potential to not land me a job right off, sure, but when it does there is at least the potential of doing much better financially in a shorter amount of time than in the industries I've been in. I think that right now any choice I make is a risk. Even if I don't love it once I'm in then maybe I put up with it for a year or so and pay off my debts so that I can take that a $10 per hr. radio job later and still get by (Assuming there are any once the recession dust settles). I dunno.. what I'm doing now isn't getting me anywhere so maybe this extreme change breathes new life into my outlook... *shrug*.

But part of the 'due dilligence' of researching the industry is finding this out.

Seriously...if people are leaving, do you honestly somehow thing that if its something bad that has made them choose, in a down market, to stop getting a paycheck...that you are going to do better then they have at tolerating whatever the crap is?

I made that mistake once....took a job where I knew the predecessor had a horrible time dealing with the boss and I thought I would manage and be different......

I lasted precisely the same time the person before me had....because it was a toxic environment.

Sweetness.....under 40k for a non university requiring position...is going to be the -going- rate....hell....I don't make much more then that and I have a Masters....

Not to sound preachy...but I would take a seriously look at what in your life you can cut out or eliminate or make less costly and live that way for a while, because even with a job...

The issue is debt and it isn't going anywhere until I find something where I can make $50+K for a year or two AND live outside L.A. so my living expenses are kept down while I pay off things. The only exception is that I suspect I will need a new car in the next 2 years unless I dump a lot of money into this one. Overall, my day to day life is pretty damned frugal already. I don't eat out much (Unless someone else is paying). To see almost anyone I know is either an hour 1 direction or 2 hours the other direction, so I don't see friends or spend money to do so. Netflix is about as excessive as I get these days and in the situation I'm in (Referring to family stuff) my sanity is worth $25 per month ( ... )

I get off of work at 5:00, and it would take me probably at least an hour to get there, I think, so I probably can't make it in time. Let me know if you start later...

...start moving toward some semblance of where a guy my age should be in life...

I knew a guy in college that had this mentality about life, and it's a trap. There is no "should be" in life. Everyone is different. What happens if you decide to change career paths? Or run into a bit of bad luck? Or get sidetracked for several years by a bad marriage or relationship? These are all things that have happened to people that I know and/or myself. Judging yourself based on the idea that there is some objective track that everyone travels is simply inaccurate.

I can certainly use the help, man. Even if I move all the smaller boxes with a hand-truck before you get there to right outside the truck then you can help me with the other pieces that require two people perhaps? Almost everything is out in the covered patio out back so the distance to move things is like 20 ft. except the TV is inside the house. The good news is that my back isn't jacked this time. Anyway, lemme know if you're up for it ( ... )

I don't want to discourage you, but you may want to find out if your credit issues are going to keep you from getting a job at a casino. There are some jobs out there that you can't get hired for if you have bad credit, have worked for a competitor (even if they went out of business), or have ever gone to jail.

The first one I'm checking into already, but so far it seems I am ok. The other two issues are covered. I've never worked for a competitor, although from what I can gather that isn't an issue in this industry where they like experience and the only way to get it is to work for a competitor. As for the third it seems most places are concerned with felony convictions (of which there are none) or misdemeanor convictions within 5 - 10 years (none of those either). My jail incident all charges were dropped but the arrest stayed on record. I'll have to make that a goal, getting that expunged I mean. The city attorney's office said they would support such a motion given the circumstances.
