The important thing is that I can execute a forward jumping breakfall over my bike's handlebars on a highway and come up unscathed. I'll explain later.
Aikido coming in handy? Still sounds painful though...I'll stick to mats for breakfalls myself :p
You're into aikido? How long? Which style? If I recall correctly, you're in Kingston; I do Yoshinkan at the RMC dojo.I wasn't aware there was another place to do it in Kingston...
I've been doing jiu jitsu at the Kingston Y since May with Steve. It's been quite fun! No foggy clue how similar/different aikido and jitsu are but we definitely do breakfalls, and we do aikido rolls.
Aikido and jiu-jutsu have a common root...Yoshinkan is the most jiu-jutsu-like of the Aikido branches. Basically, Aikido is 'gentler' and less concerned with grappling and true infighting than jiu-jutsu. They share common heritage in the form of daito-ryu aiki-jutsu...but I'll let you look it up for yourself since wikipedia is way more fun than listening to me ramble. Anyway, awesome! I'm looking for other arts to cross train in, so I'll keep this in mind.
