Golden Globes - AKA my thoughts and a rant about Grey's Anatomy

Jan 15, 2007 22:27

For some reason, I've always been fascinated by the big award shows: Oscars, Emmy's, etc. Tonight, the Golden Globes were on and I think it's safe to say they were a complete waste of my time. It's a lot more fun to watch when the shows, movies, and actors you like win their categories. First of all, I've hardly seen any of the movies that were ( Read more... )

I totally disagree. I hate Scrubs and love Grey's anatomy. They are two totally different shows, but in the same setting.

Grey's is a lot more serious and is sold as a drama. Scrubs is all about the skit setting, slap-stick, in my opinion often corny humor.

I cant believe you hate Greys :o( This saddens me so .... lol

I knew I'd get a response from you, Eric! Don't worry-- I have no problem with you liking Grey's Anatomy. People with bad taste must exist so that the others know they have good taste. J/k. :-) And we really shouldn't argue Grey's vs. Scrubs; they aren't in the same category and Scrubs has gone downhill so far this season. Although I've got my hopes up for this week's all-musical episode! Not that you would like it. To each his/her own, right?

You know how much I love Scrubs! And the episode with Chris Meloni is absolutely hilarious! The puppet... haha, and then Dr. Cox "kidnaps" it and sends him a "finger" he supposedly cut off the puppet. See, Grey's would never do something that crazy! Maybe we're just weird because we like ridiculous humor-- but you're right. Grey's tries to be funny sometimes and doesn't succeed.

And the fact that you said Ugly Betty sucks makes me angry that The Office didn't win. Oh well.

Obviously, House should've won. Maybe it would have if it had been nominated? Lol. Even Dr. Baer likes that show.

Drama is absolutely elevated above comedy, and not only in terms of award shows. I'm with you that comedy is more difficult to write than drama, but for people who don't write there is a perception that a well-written drama takes more work to create than an equally good comedy. Likewise, there's a perception that good comedic actors are just naturally funny and thus don't work as hard as actors in dramatic roles (meanwhile anyone who's tried both will generally tell you that comedy is tougher). A big part of the problem is that stupid, lazily produced comedies frequently achieve success, and it causes the whole genre to be diminished.

I think that's one of the common misconceptions about comedic actors. It doesn't always come naturally and I think many times they have to work just as hard. And I'm sure there are naturally talented dramatists as well, so the fact that some actors are just good at comedic timing shouldn't even be a factor. I'm just partial to good writing because without that, you've got nothing.

I agree entirely. A work that is well-written can still achieve something even if the acting isn't great, but it takes an almost impossible level of brilliant acting to overcome poor writing.

Sounds like a bunch of cocky wannabee comedy writers to me. ;)
