The title Potato Peel Society caught my attention, haha. Is that just one long title, or two?
I think I want to read Empress, too... Well, it looked interesting. Was it good?
Good luck finishing your list! that's a lot of novels in one summer.

I tried calling you on Friday, but no one was home.. I have Wednesday afternoon off, though. What are you up to then? :) Let me know

Haha, it's one title! I think the novel unfolds in the aftermath of the effects of the Second World War on the UK, so you can't go wrong there. Have you ever read Kit Pearson's Guests of War trilogy? They deal with themes similar to those in this novel.

Empress was amazing, and ran parallel with Arthur Golden's writing in Geisha in that even the most minute detail, from the fabrics of the courtiers' garments to the lights that lined the river at night, was brought to life in rich, vivid detail. I think you would really enjoy it. Shall you borrow it?

I'd love to see you Wednesday, if you're free! ♥

I never read the Guests of War.. At least I don't think I have, haha. Does The Sky is Falling belong to that trilogy?

And Empress sounds sort of amazing. I'd love to borrow it, but I'm afraid you might not see it for a couple months, depending on how fast I can read it!

I am free for most of the day on Wednesday :) I work in the morning/early afternoon, and Mom and I are going to see Mamamia(sp?) later in the evening. I've never heard of it, but she wants to see it I guess haha. I also have tonight after 7 off, if you're interested :) I don't know when you'll see this though haha. I'll give you a call
later.

Yeah, it does! I think that's the first one. The second is Looking at the Moon, and the third is The Lights Go On Again.

I can lend it to you, if you'd like it! Time is irrelevant.

I've been invited to supper at Dean's mother's house tonight, but I can be available at any time tomorrow, since it seems that you're quite busy. :)

I feel bad for reading only one book this entire summer, and still being stuck on one that I will hopefully finish so I can partially-finish a third book! At least it was an awesome single book, though.

Is reading The God Delusion still proving to be a rather trying literary endeavour? Perhaps Mr. Dawkins is just too hardcore for you and me, both!

What do you wager is next on your list??

No. I'm maybe one hundred pages to the end, so I should be done tomorrow. Next I may read Breaking the Spell by Daniel Dennett, which looks at "the conviction that religion is off-limits to scientific inquiry." (Dennett feels it is not.) However, it seems to cover the same ground as The God Delusion, so I may lay that to rest and come back to it later. (Hopefully it presents alternative hypotheses so it is not completely redundant, however.) If that is true, I will read some fiction instead -- The Great Gatsby or Alice in Wonderland, perhaps.

I've been wanting to read Empress by Shan Sa. Is it good?

Yes, it was very enjoyable. She is a writer that has clearly invested much time and energy into honing her craft, and she excels at it.
