Change decision
There are not many decisions in my life I would change, but one stands out in my mind: not going on my usual rounds to check on Gollum.
At the time, my father entrusted me with keeping watch on that creature. Everyday, I would walk by his cell and make sure the guards were doing their job properly.
On the day Gollum escaped, I was distracted with other events concerning my father’s kingdom, and was unable to go on my usual rounds. By the time we found out he was gone, it was too late to go after him, for he was already too far ahead, and captured by Sauron’s orcs.
I keep thinking what would have happened if we found out he escaped sooner. Would Frodo have had more time in destroying the ring? Would we have had more time to organize the counter strike against Sauron therefore many lives would have been spared? These are questions I cannot answer but will always wonder about.

Confrontations
This is an interesting question, and one I would have to say depends on whom I am confronting. If it were a friend, then I would want to handle it in the best way possible, even asking for forgiveness if I found myself in the wrong. Now with an enemy, it is best to shoot first, and ask questions later if they are still breathing.

Oddest gift
Legolas could not understand the gift in the box a child handed him. The box was beautifully carved, from a solid piece of wood. It looked like it took the elfling a long time to carve it, for there was much detail in the cover and the sides. When Legolas opened it, there was nothing on the inside except for one single seed.
He looked down at the elfling. “Why place such a simple thing as a seed in such a beautiful box?”
The elfling blinked for a few moments, then said, “The seed was from the tree that gave its life to warm my house for the winter and the wood to carve this box. I wanted you to plant it so that it may live again and bring joy back to your life.”
Legolas did not realize that he had grown so sad through his mother’s passing that this child would go through such lengths to touch his heart. Leaning down, Legolas tenderly kissed the top of the elfling’s head. “I will plant it in the middle of Ada’s garden, so that it will provide a place of cool shade for myself and others to sit under. Also, it will provide me with a memory of how a simple gift grew joy in my heart. Thank you, little one, for I will cherish for as long as I am here on Arda.”
