They won't let you take books on the plane?

The water bottle I could almost see, in their current paranoia, because lord knows, most terrorists transport their biological WMDs in water bottles these days. It's all the rage.

But books?? What was their rationale?

Also, did they confiscate the water bottle, or merely say you have to empty it first?

Depending how fast you have to get home, I'd almost think about getting the ticket refunded and travelling Amtrak. It may be slower, but it seems like you'd get far less tsuris from it.

Well, it makes sense to me because you could evolve hydrogen gas from the water and use the books to ignite it, downing the plane. Now that toenail clippers can be taken on board again, they have enough security threats to worry about - no need to risk letting books and water on the plane.
