I Hate Claddagh Rings

Feb 26, 2006 00:11

I'm not sure why, but I think Claddagh Rings are idiotic. No offense if you have one, and I don't think you're stupid-er if you do, but for some reason I've grown to despise them. Maybe it's because the creepy sexual predator who wouldn't leave me alone on the bus last night was wearing one? That's probably it.

Dana, I'd appreciate that SO MUCH! We are so stranded up here without HBO -- it's torture!

So glad I convinced you to see Firefly! Seriously, it's amazing... and stick with it when you first start out -- the season doesn't start to get REALLY awesome until "Jaynetown"....

Good job spreading the joy. I no longer call you random girl I met on the internet, but fellow brown coat. :) I was trying to get all sorts of people to watch it at sem with moderate success, but it's been slow going. :(

About creepy guys on the bus, many nerds I know want nerdy girl friends. So, guys like that would be more attracted to star wars than not. So, really, you might be attracting him with the jacket. Btw, how did he know what was in your three bags?

And boy am I ever glad to be a brown coat. :-) I'm going to be spreading the joy as MUCH as possible b/c I want them to make a sequel and put it back on TV, damnit!

I will admit I don't like Inara much, though, and I think the whole "companion"/"prostitute" gimmick throughout he Firefly/Serenity saga is kinda stupid. When are she and Mal going to get together already so we can end that whole thread?!

And yeah, re: nerds and nerd girls...you make a good point there.... perhaps I should lose the jacket.

The bags they give out at the BC library to carry your stuff in are clear, and thus look-in-able.

Well, I think Joss was going for the whole disorientation of a world with is radically different from our own. And having a world that respects prostitution is very different and probably is what he thinks will happen. (He is a feminist, you know.)

Strangely enough, it also shows that this ideal of sexuality isn't perfect considering that there are prostitutes being mistreated on the show and Inara's job inhibits her from ever loving Mal. I've been reading through the Serenity RPG book and apparently companions are never allowed to fall in love. Making love is a completely proffesion thing for them and they should be able to turn it on and off at will. Inara's having trouble living this type of life ever since she fell for Mal. So, I hope Joss stays true to his psychology and shows the companion's system to be completely against human nature. We'll see, though.

You know, I really like your thinking there. I don't know if that's what Joss was going for, but I think it makes a lot of sense, and I hope it's what he intended in the long run.

Now we just have to keep buying the DVDs until they put it back on the air or give us another movie!!

So glad you like Firefly! We have..the same taste... in a lot of things... it's weird. I like it. :-)

This specific, overly talkative, creepy stalker guy was a first -- I had never see him on the 86 bus before, and I hope never to see him again. Unfortunately, other creepy men refuse to leave me alone. :-( I wish I hadn't lost my damn ski-mask. I totally looked like a dude with it, and because creepy stalker guys are usually all heterosexual, I was safe. Damn you, mom, for losing my ski-mask! If I get raped, I'm totally blaming it on her.

I probably shouldn't joke about that... the late-night 86 bus can be kind of scary...

...Matt, buy a damn CAR already!

ah yea i know all about that - on my long and sometimes creepy walks to studio and back (while still at nyu - my drama studio was in a wholesale district that had lots of thuglike people selling things on the street), particularly at night, i used to wear really unflattering and baggy clothes, and tuck my ponytail in, in hopes that i was not perceived as a girl. i survived it, thank God. im sure you'll get through this as well - prayers that no one else bothers you.

as for our tastes, yea i like it too! i kinda feel like we should hang out at some point (since all we ever really got was a conversation or two at newman) but of course, my life is crazy hectic, as im sure yours is too, so who knows when that'll happen...but if you're ever visiting nyc let me know! who knows :)

Yes! I have done the baggy clothes bit before, when I used to work in the South Bronx. It gets scary there at night, even if you don't have boobs.

Haha, yeah we should definitely hang out... I'm probably going to be at Newman this coming Thursday (a week from yesterday) because my spring break is from now until the 13th or something. Are you quite busy now?
