Escapism

So, as I lamented earlier, all my files are gone, gone, gone. No more late night Invader Zim fixes. No more immediate gratification upon feeling the urge ("urge and urge and urge, always the procreant urge of the world"... sorry, I can't help myself) to hear the smooth delicious strains of Billy Joel's "Vienna" at 4am. No more calling up old e- ( Read more... )

I surfed onto this LJ by chance - but I think I can answer this pretty confidently, no, he isn't.

I remember in a NPR interview he said, "I don't think.. that I can't.. disagree with my church." That was specifically about contraception; otherwise, Colbert has described himself politically as liberal and Democrat without any clarification like 'pro-life Democrat' that would bring me to think he's pro-life.

Yeah, I highly doubt he's pro-life. Maybe he's not rabidly pro-abortion, but I doubt he's a "pro-life Dem"... I don't agree with him on /everything/, obviously... same goes for Jon Stewart... but he's still awesome!

(Just like, say, you might not agree with Joss Whedon on *everything* ..and I certainly don't agree with George Lucas on everything. G.K. Chesterton on the other hand... I have never read anything of his where I can flatly say I disagree w/ him. And GKC is more of a genius than Colbert. So there. Er, no rhyme intended!)

Certainly, I agree about disagreeing with Colbert and Stewart yet still loving them. You know, I heard Mr. Colbert named one of his babies John Paul... ! And his wife's name is Evelyn. And he comes from a South Carolina immediate family of like 10 (I don't remember the exact). That's enough Catholic credential to be exempted from being required to be orthodox!

And I have to agree about Chesterton as well; the man seems to simply've known the truth.

Hey, nice to "meet" you, and of course I don't mind! Yay, Catholic Chesterton fans! There are far too few of us. :-) Have you found many more on LJ?
