30 and back to school

Friday was something of a surreal day. Bad things, Good things, in between things all around. Not too concerned about the bad things at the moment, so I'll take the opportunity to talk about the good.

To sum it up, I got a huge promotion on Friday. Seriously, it's awesome. I got a massive raise, my new title is Controller (w00t!) and they are going to pay for me to go to school to get my accounting degree. Pay for the entire thing, whether it takes 2, 4, 6 years, however long, they want me to get my degree so I can be the CFO. This is a company that has only been around for 2 1/2 years, so they don't have a lot of nifty little benefits like paying for extra schooling. They want me to get training and other experience so that I can be a real CFO for the company. Not the crap that they have dealt with from other people that have claimed they could be the CFO, but someone who is really going to be looking out for the company.

In other words, I'm beyond stoked.

There have been problems. Lots of problems. And sometimes the people are total idiots. Like being raised by hyenas and stealing soda from the fridge that isn't their's, but there is something about this company. Even when J was talking about my promotion, his own comment was "you care about this company. We don't know why you care, but you do. And we are very grateful for it."

I can't even begin to convey how much of a gesture; hell it's practically a moving mountains kind of gesture coming from these guys. Especially since I know the state of the company's finances and whatnot. I'm fourth in rank for the company, and I'm a female. In an almost totally male dominated industry, these guys have turned to a female to keep their money safe. Power trip? Oh I think so. It's amazing. Not that I think about that part all that much. I have other concerns at the moment, like still working all the time on the weekend *le sigh* but it just makes sense somehow to be doing this.

It's going to be a huge challenge and undertaking. But what can I say, it's such an incredible opportunity, how could I turn it down?

Even for all the problems, I can literally call the President or CEO into my office, talk to them about an issue, and then 10 minutes later see an email to the whole company about how something is being changed or updated or whatever it is. All those issues that a fledging company deals with, I get to help create the policies and infrastructure that will make the company better (hopefully). The HR Director and I are also a pretty amazing team. Granted, she's the only other female in the office that has any power with the boys, so with the two of us together, we are quite the wonder pair.

So I'll be looking into starting school again for the Spring Semester. Puppy's already having fun talking about how all the little college boys are going to be hitting on me. When it's all said and done, this should be a rather entertaining ride.
