X'D I think being an atheist is still a big deal. I think it's ok believed whatever makes you feel comfortable (choosing not to believe is also valid). Most people still think atheist worship Satan or are bad. They also think atheists think they are better than believers because they won't buy all those "magic" or miraculous stories that are kinda forced under the dogma of faith...

I think the real issue comes from Religious people who simply can't grasp the idea that someone doesn't believe in God. Most people just get by, it's the extreme members of every group that ruin it for everyone else.

One of the Ten Commandments should have been "live your life and leave others live theirs" (I think there are a few that can be gathered in that one XD).

Four of the ten commandments, or what people think are the ten commandments as moses actually broke those tablets and wrote a newer version later on, are "worship God". Surely three of them could have been used for things like "Don't rape" and "If someone is different, but doing you no harm, leave them be."

This article explains the real commandments: http://disinfo.com/2010/02/the-ten-commandments-we-always-see-arent-the-ten-commandments/

I'll bet that article was written by a so-called "neo-conservative" - the movement that has ultimately resulted in Gamergate and Donald Trump being taken seriously as a presidential candidate. It's an insular group of young, white American men who think they're superior to everyone who isn't a straight, white, cisgendered, Christian male. They're a small group - but a dangerous one, because they have a lot of influence right now.
