I'm glad that you're coming to some peace with yourself and your past. The things that have happened to us in our past, whether by our own choice or otherwise, shape who we are now. That's not an excuse for poor behavior but it can be a good reason. In the end, I think it's up to us how we decide to let the people of our past and the circumstances of our direct our present and future. Basically, do we allow ourselves to remain the victim...or do we take control of ourselves and our destiny and do what we can to push past it all? Just because you are no longer an active victim doesn't mean you won't have moments where the nightmare washes over you. But when you wake up from the nightmare and realize it was a nightmare and is no longer reality...then what do you do? That's the real question. Where do you choose to live? The past? Or the now? I think once you decide...you find true peace. As much as there is such a thing as true peace. (couldn't be TOO optimistic - just wouldn't be me ( ... )

I think, for the most part, life is a mix of things we can't control and things we can. We're dealt cards, and go through some situations... and those things can alter the way we view the world. Sometimes we can't help it, and we get stuck in patterns. But I think the difference is what we do with those choices we can make, and how we learn from past mistakes/problems. Even if those are just small choices to start....
