I was gonna post, but then I got stuck staring at my icon.

So, I finally did what I've been meaning to do for months and started watching House of Cards. AND IT IS SO GOOD. Kevin Spacey is a fucking genius; I loathe his character and yet still love him at the same time. The first couple times he directly addressed the camera it sort of weirded me out, but I got used to it quickly, and now I find it quite ( Read more... )

I am three eps in. I like the Robin Wright character because she has short hair. How shallow is that? I am intrigued about how she insists on taking care of that activist she wants to hire, it's nice but very controlling at the same time. And she seems a little haunted by guilt by firing the middle aged lady.

I am "obtaining" Orange Is The New Black. I find it hilarious that this is the Taylor Shillling played an Ayn Rand Heroine in a very weird adaptation of Atlas Shrugged. Ok then. We all have to work. I am looking forward to seeing Kate Mulgrew again.

Love story? Oy. IDK. Maybe the two robots in Wall-E. It is so interesting how we assign gender do non-humanoid robots. I also kinda loved the two cowboys in Brokeback Mountain. "I wish I knew how to quit you."

LOL, I didn't realize you were a fan of short hair. Robin Wright's bone structure it so beautiful it barely seems human. So far, the firing of the lovely middle-aged lady has been the only scene that actually upset me, so I'm glad that Claire feels bad about it, or sort of seems to. Honestly, she's so inhuman that she creeps me out, but in a good way that I don't mind. It's just funny to me that I'm watching two shows in which I like absolutely none of the characters, but whatever. We all know what happens when I actually like characters, so probably it's better this way.

I've seen various .gifsets from Orange is the New Black on tumblr, and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be my thing. Kate Mulgrew, however, is awesome.

Omg, your love story answers are cracking me UP. The robots, REALLY M? I don't think human beings are at all capable of thinking about anything as non-gendered, and honestly, why would we be? Those robots are seriously adorable though.

Well, when two robots love each other very very much they go to the factory and built a new robot. Or something.

There is actually some 3CP0/R2D2 slash around. Yikes. But how can you have robot slash if the robots are neither male or female?

As to the hair issue: I find that woman with short hair are often very particular about their appearance, as short hair takes more maintenance then long hair. A good short haircut enhances rather than distracts from a woman's femininity. It helps if you have great bone structure, as you pointed out. My Stepmon has had short hair her whole life and I can't imagine her any other way. I have shoulder length hair as I would feel too butch with short hair with my roundish face and broad shoulders. Not that there's anything wrong with butchness, but that's not what I'm going for.

Now I'm dying trying to figure out how robots even have sex. This is definitely more than I've ever considered that particular subject in my life.

Some women look absolutely amazing with short hair, and of course Robin Wright is one of those women who's so beautiful that she looks good with any kind of hair (or probably with no hair). I've had mine all the ways in my life, but my face is so round that at least shoulder length hair makes me happier.

Plus, ponytails!

I loved Chuck, though I also loved Chuck and Sarah together. The way that they ended the series gutted me, and I have decided never to watch the show again. (*lots of pain there*)

My favorite love story of all time is Polgara and Durnik from The Belgariad by David Eddings. It has been for a very, very long time. There was just something about this fiery powerful woman and this soft spoken gentle man that stabbed me right in the heart. He loved her in silence for 16 years, always in the background silently supporting her. And in the end, it was his sacrifice for her and her love for him that saved everything. I love the series as a whole, but this...this was just a beautiful love story for me.

I never actually watched the final season of Chuck, although I've seen enough .gifsets and fanvids (and I did watch the final scene on the beach) to get the idea. I don't think it was a good decision. TV writers will forever annoy me by making decisions that I'm sure they find edgy but to me only wind up betraying the trust of viewers who have stuck with you for a lot of years. Overall, Chuck was a happy show, although it had its very sad and poignant moments. I feel as if the ending should have honored that truth, rather than taking such a drastic step as erasing all of Sarah's memories. Very weird.

I have never even heard of your favorite love story! It sounds lovely and wonderful. This is a book series?

I would much rather have had one less season and have the end of the season before as the series finale. It left me feeling wonderful and smiling, thinking of all the fun adventures the team was going to have together. The actual series finale had no point but to cause us pain. Maybe if the show wasn't a show about love, of all kinds, the impact might not have been so awful. But it was, and what they did to us, and Chuck and Sarah, was horrifying ( ... )

That's a lot of books! Like you, I've been having trouble lately finding the discipline to make myself read (god that sounds awful, because I really love reading -- my brain has just been tired). I hope it passes, because reading relaxes me and makes me feel more creative at the same time. I could probably use a break from all the post-apocalyptic YA fic I've been mainlining, so these books sound really excellent!

Do you read historical novels?

I've also watched 2 eps of House of Cards and I LOVE it but like, needed a break from it because it's so...I dunno, it like stresses me out, lol. So no mainlining for me. Robin Wright is a goddess, seriously.

Hmm, favourite love story - um, I'm not really a romantic but I guess I'll have to go with Maria and Georg. Something about her finding a way into his heart without even looking for it and then both of them trying to fight it but knowing it was something you don't just turn your back on.

It stresses you out, huh? I find that fascinating, because for me it's honestly relaxing. I think it's just because I truly don't care what happens to these horrifying people, so mostly it's just fun to watch them be horrible and run around and stab each other in the back and be gorgeous awesome actors who can pull it all off. And YES Robin Wright is a goddess. I've been watching her since she played Kelly Capwell on Santa Barbara in like, damn. The mid-'80s, hee.

Aw, Maria and Georg are a great answer. I've adored them since I first saw the movie when I was about seven and I adore them now. I also love the fact that it's at least loosely based on a true story, although I'm sure the movie is a lot more romantic than real life!

Hi! :) House of Cards is amazing! I looove Kevin Spacey. Though surprisingly I think his wife is the better/ more interesting character. Plus she's too gorgeous to be human.

Favorite love story of all time, wow. Good question. I'd say Maria and Captain von Trapp. That one kills me every time.

Claire is a GREAT character, even though I find her as revolting as I find all the rest of them. Robin Wright is so fantastic, and it never stops making me laugh that she started out on my favorite soap opera of all time. Damn, that was back in the day.

The Captain and Maria are winning! Granted, small contest, but that's two votes for them. I do love them so. I wish my kids like that movie, dammit!

Yep, that's the one! I find that I absolutely cannot get past it in terms of how much her character annoys me. I mean all the characters on the show are unlikeable, but I really just loathe her.

In other HOC news I mainlined four eps last night. I fear that Robin Wright is my new Girl Crush. Maybe the lesbian part of my brain was seeking to replace Anna Torv. What IS it with me and tall blondes? Don't answer that.

Well you have good taste; they're both babes! I don't love HOC enough to mainline it, but I really am enjoying the acting so far. I sort of wistfully wish I liked any of the people, but apparently that's too much to hope for. LOL.
