"Please Dean, I don't want to talk anymore."

Cas turned her head to the side, gazing at the dinner table; it was almost ready but for the turkey (Mary didn't take her eyes off the oven, like the heat of her gaze could cook it faster).

Dean opened his mouth, but closed it soon enough - if there was anything more discouraging than Cas' expression, Dean didn't want to meet it.

"Ooh, trouble in Heaven! The lovebirds are fighting!" Gabriel mocked as he was approached them, twirling a candycane in his hand.

"Fuck off, Gabriel." Dean scowled.

"No swearing at Christmas!" Mary sing sang from the kitchen.

"Okay, then kindly, get out of my sight."

Gabriel only smirked, and Cas continued to do her statue impression.

"Now, now, no need to be so touchy! Where's your holiday cheer? Ain't Christmas the happiest time of the year?"

Cas huffed, and without even looking at them, got up from the couch and went to the front door, slipping outside.

Dean turned to argue with Gabriel, but was surprised when the older boy grabbed him by the lapels of his jacket, the serious (slightly murderous) expression on his face, so foreign to him, made him intimidating even in his short height.

"Now go out there and apologize for whatever stupid shit you did to my little sister." He hissed in a truly scary tone, letting go of Dean, who could only stare dumbly at him. "GO, idiot!"

So Dean did.

The snow had stopped falling, but it was still freezing outside, and Dean wished he had brought a coat when he spotted Cas shivering at the sidewalk, looking at her own house, just across the street.

"C'mon, let's go back inside." He said, trying to sound gentle (he wasn't very good at these things). His hands made an aborted movement towards Cas, but he doubted she would welcome his touch.

"Sometimes I wish I've never moved here." She said softly.

He tried not to feel so ridiculously bitter at her words. Not having Cas in his life, only the mere thought...

"You make things so much more complicated, Dean."

Dean took a deep breath, clenching his fist. "Dammit, Cas, it's- I wake up every morning expecting everybody to be gone, and I don't even know why. I get myself looking at my mother, like it's a miracle she's here. It's like I can't accept I got all this; you, my parents, Sam, Bobby- even Gabriel! I feel like it's somehow wrong, that I don't deserve it."

Cas then looked at him, her eyes fond and so, so blue, it never failed to capture Dean completely. In the faint street light, and with snow surrounding them, her skin was almost ghostly pale.

"If there's anybody who deserves happiness, it's you, Dean. I would do anything for you, to see you like this." And Dean really wished she wouldn't say things like that, because they brought an inexplicable guilt.

He shrugged it off. "So maybe it was you, who gave me everything I wished for. Maybe in another dimension you got super powers."

"Like a super hero?"

"Or a witch." Dean twitched his nose, and Cas chuckled.

"Or a genie."

Dean finally managed the courage to touch her, cupping her face in his hand. "Or an angel."

She closed her eyes (and faintly they heard Mary announcing that the turkey was ready - Dean could imagine everybody around the table: Mary and John, Sammy, Gabriel, Cas' parents, Samuel and Deanna, his annoying cousins; the food, the yellow lights, the softly humming of his mother as she cuts the apple pie she made only for him)-
then Cas whispers, "Maybe it was a Christmas wish."
