Can't agree with you more about cyclists! Sweeping generalisation alert: It's their blatant disregard for the road rules and other road users that annoys the hell out of me. There's a group of about 30 cyclists here in Sydney that regulary choose to do a group ride during peak hour morning traffic down the main freeway through the city. Meaning they block 2 lanes, cause major tailbacks and weave in and out of traffic traveling 100kph. If you sound your horn, you get 30 fingers raised at you. And they want us Sydneysiders to recognise they have a legitimate place on the road...! Rant over.
I feel the same way about cyclists, pedal powered or motor powered. They both pull the same dumb sorts of stunts. I will always let someone go who is doing the right thing, signaling, etc. The ones playing create a lane or driving in the not-a-lane (the sign warned of it's ending ½ a mile back) can pound sand. A little respect for others and the rules goes a long way.
I share your comments about bicycle riders. I respect their choice to ride a bike over drive a car but they (I know they is a generalization but more often than not this is the case) make a choice to ignore traffic signs and signals. I was recently nearly run down by a cyclist in our neighborhood while walking my dogs and when I shouted at him, "stop sign!" he shouted back, "I'm not a car!" It's attitudes like that which get pedestrians and cyclists injured. I have yet to see a cop pull over a cyclist for blowing through a stop sign or a stop light but it would be nice once in a while if they did.

Is that "respect"...or it is fear?
