FYI: If ever you are talking to someone who is adopted, never say something stupid like "Wait, so they're not your real parents/sister/family?"

Paul thinks I overreact. I think its offensive and rude. And I'm sick of how often it happens.

My family is as real as it gets, and I'm a real part of it. They're the only family I have.

I understand how you feel. I think that question is pretty rude and offensive too. But most people don't mean it that way, so I answer as nicely as possible, "actually, they're more 'real' than some people who are blood related."
