I am so very happy.

Someone introduced me to pandora.com this evening. I'll bet some of you have heard of it. I think I even remember one of you mentioning it in passing. . . maybe ( Read more... )

Last.Fm is similar but not near as cool and user friendly as Pandora IMHO.

And welcome to Pandora. I've been using it for a year or more and found many, MANY artists I never would have heard of if not for them.

Thanks, my friend!

Oh, and fox_c also mentioned Last.Fm. . . and the fact that it's not as awesome, but serviceable in the absence of pandora.

She also mentioned a feature she never tried out much that allowed you to exchange radio stations with friends. Wanna try it sometime? :-D

Sure I'd love to share music stations.

I warn you my taste tends to be a bit all over the place.

For example I've got the following stations right now:

Cowgirl (by Underworld) Radio
Jim Cullum Radio
Brave Combo Radio
Flogging Molly Radio
Franz Joseph Haydn Radio
George Gershwin Radio
Sergey Rachmoninov Radio
Django Reinhardt Radio
Coldplay Radio

It's ironic that I can't make a station of one of my favorite artists "Weird Al". Since he parodies all sorts of styles the station can't lock in on any single one.

Ees ok! I love eclecticism! leitha_phoenix February 15 2008, 14:22:52 UTC
And my playlists right now include:

Joni Mitchell
They Might Be Giants
Giovani Pierluigi
Juanes
Zoot Suit Riot
Cat Stevens
Jack Johnson (which has a LOT in common with the Cat Stevens station, I've
found)
Gipsy Kings
Barenaked Ladies
Joan Osborne
Miles Davis

. . . and I'm creating one for Dragonforce RIGHT NOW! :-D

Pandora doesn't seem so bad. Makes me miss when I used to use other radio stations like this. Yahoo music player was one I used to use most and while yeah, it isn't that great, I still found out some of my favorite bands from it. I think it though based its songs more on how you rated a song and how others rated that song giving you something people that rated the song you just rated similar things they like ( ... )

I had an awful lot of "vocal-centric aesthetic" on mine too. :-) And they really are fun descriptors, even when I have no idea what the hell they mean either (vocal-centric aesthetic being one of the more transparent ones, no?).

That is annoying that they don't have those two bands. They had everything I came up with, luckily, but I'm sure I'll find someone eventually that they don't have.

Ach! It's so cool!

I adore Pandora and am totally and completely gutted that they can't stream to the UK anymore. I'm using Last.FM now and it's *just* ok.

One neat thing about Pandora that I never really got a chance to explore were sharing stations you've made with friends. That sounded like it could be quite a bit of fun. . .

I thought I remembered you putting up that post, but I wasn't positive. :-}

That really is sad for you, and just a little ridiculous. Everything they have on their site is so VERY geared towards making sure people collect royalties and avoiding abuse of the system, it's just silly for them to disallow it. :-P

So it's banned everywhere in the UK, huh? Sucky.

I am loving Pandora...*guilty* didn't mention it before but I found out about it when fox_c was losing the service, so I didn't want to crow to much about it. Love it! It's particularly cool for work, as I love zoning out to music while setting up analysis (and plus, my employer doesn't like for us to keep MP3s on our servers or machines).

We'll have to trade playlists - not sure how to do that yet.

Oh ho. . . *sudden semi-guilt*. I knew I had remembered someone mentioning it, but it didn't occur to me not to say anything because she'd lost at . :-P Ah well. I was just so very thrilled when I found out about it and started playing with it! It is great for when you're working, no? :-D
