A realish update. Short, but realish.
Not only did I have my first class at Univ. of Alaska Anchorage today (night class, Physical Geology), but today also marked the completion of my first job as a substitute teacher for Anchorage School District. Friday was my first day in that particular classroom (hs biology. how cool is it that my first job was in my field?).
I am 1) very, very satisfied to have a job again at long last, 2) extremely proud of my first tries at classroom management, and 3) glad that I could help the General Biology students and very frustrated that the Marine Science kids were so frustrated by their assignment and I couldn't help them more. :-P
Overall, it was good. I nearly went cross-eyed grading papers on Sunday though. "Thorough" is my middle name, what can I say? (Very thorough, the first time I do a thing.)
Anyway. A word about Brett: not only did he secure me a subbing job the first week of school (only two days after I became a registered substitute) by mentioning me to the science teachers at trainings, but he really likes his new school. (This is me updating for him, in case you couldn't tell.) In his words, "Even my remedial classes are pretty good, a lot like my on-level classes in Ardmore, and everything here. . . WORKS." Meaning the technology, the administration, the procedures, etc.
I agree.
And ok. The update wasn't as short as I thought it'd be. :-}
And now, at long last, a picture for you all:
