Phantom of the Oy-pera.

OK, I admit that I don't hate The Phantom of the Opera. I was a young teenager when I first saw it and it was fun, a spectacle. I also liked the old Gaston LeRoux fiction on which it was based -- a good pulp read.

But today, Phantom replaces Cats as the longest-running show on Broadway.

Don't be "down on theatre" Theatre is still a wonderful form of expression and a way to get ideas across, just because the commercial stuff is mostly shmaltz these days... Go see stuff off-broadway, or Off-off, where people are trying to make statements and change things. The show I am working on now is called "the Fear Project" and it is seven short plays all about media based fear, and how society is controlled through the media. they aren't the best shows on the planet, but the acting is decent,and at least they are trying to saw something. And if we ever get the video working so we can tech it (considering we have audience tomorrow) i think the production side of the show will look cool. www.thebarrowgroup.org and even on the broadway side, it's not all bad. yeah the commercial stuff sucks. Wicked i hate. i really do. And all the jukebox musicals just make me want to gag, But Piazza is so beautiful, and worth seeing. and there were plays like Pillowman, that was fantastic. but speaking of commercialism...i have to run ( ... )
