Dear Yuletide Writer,
First off: no matter what you write, I love you madly. Seriously. Pick any prompt and I will be over the moon. ♥
On the general guidelines front, I'm not too picky. I'd prefer you write a story you really love that only kind-of fits my request than try to write something formulaic based on my [pretty damn vague] prompts. If you enjoyed writing it, I will enjoy reading it. But there are a few things I just don't prefer to read: sex without plot (I'm not much of a smut-reader, to be honest), heavy kinks (noncon, torture, scat, etc.), mpreg, and death fic (as in, where the central character(s) die - death happening in the fic around them is a-okay). While I do love me some AU, one of my biggest things is characters staying in character and total AUs often stretch that a bit too far.
Some general things I DO like: character studies, relationship studies, good dialogue, and bittersweet romance. I love characters that are a little cracked and fics that get into the central character's head are among my favourite things ever.
But now I'll move on to my specific requests:
1. A Study In Emerald - Neil Gaiman. The Limping Doctor (AKA John Watson), Rache (AKA Sherlock Holmes
I freely admit that I am a massive Sherlock Holmes dork, and I absolutely love A Study in Emerald. The cleverness of it and the lovely twist with Holmes and Watson's roles in the mystery capture me every time I re-read it. So, being an unabashed Holmes/Watson girl, there are two things in particular that I would love, love, love to receive. One is backstory fic and the other, which can be delightfully combined with the first, is a broken, messed up love story. But, yeah, as long as it features Holmes and Watson being badass and damaged, like they are in the story, I'll be thrilled.
2. Cornelius Quartet - Michael Moorcock. Jerry Cornelius
Oh man, Jerry. One of my all-time favourite fictional characters and, like the request form says, all I want is Jerry being himself. Which is super open-ended because there's so much variation between stories. My favourite novel from The Cornelius Quartet is The Final Programme, and I also adore The Lives and Times of Jerry Cornelius beyond all reason. If you can give me something in that style, fab. But, really, all I'm looking for is something Jerry-centric. Keep it grounded in his character and the fic will be as good as gold. Only more awesome because, come on, JERRY.
3. Wonder Boys - Michael Chabon. Terry Crabtree, Grady Tripp
My absolute favourite part of Wonder Boys is the relationship between Grady and Terry. Their long friendship, the glimpses of backstory, the fact that they're drifting apart after so many years - that's the part of the novel that stuck with me the most. So that's what I want. Take any angle you want. Seriously, backstory fic, a single moment in time, introspection on the part of one or the other, it's all good. I'd just love to read more about them and will take whatever you want to throw at me.
And I think that just about does it! Happy writing and happy Yuletide!
