It's big business that ruins us. I mean, customers don't steal from someone in the community, someone they have to face and who has expectations of them. The anonymity of "the Man" makes it easy to understand why punk kids would ruin my freshly-folded t-shirt aisle or shovel paint pens into their coats. I agree. I was getting frustrated working at Mervyns, because I was coming to the same conclusions you mentioned above. I hate buying from corperations, but there are very few alternatives and the other options out there are usually more pricey.

My favorite part of American culture? Thrift stores! You can't go wrong...everything is cheap, the money always goes to a good cause, and if you get tired of the clothes you bought you just re-donate them. (Of course there is the argument that you're still indirectly depending on sweat shop clothes even if you buy at thrift stores...but at least corperations aren't getting any money out of it).

I haven't really done my share of research in this area, but I am becoming more conscious of the companies I support and choose not to support. If you have any suggestions as to which companies are fair trade and which companies aren't, I'd be happy to hear them.

I miss you like mad. And it probably seems strange since we never really hung out all that much, but just being around you gives me energy. You're one of so few culturally-driven people who shares my interest in dedicating time and love to social causes, and... I guess I've just felt bogged down by school and work, and I miss going to Tulare and G street with you and hanging out with real people ( ... )
