4th quote: Jubal's air of detachment. we were just beginning to see jubal's character unfold, and i thought this particular exchange was hilarious. so matter-of-fact, despite the fact that this exchange would not have been taken so lightly for humans.
the quote on laughter: yes. i enjoyed that entire sequence. there is goodness in the laughter itself because it is triumph over the wrongness. great passage.
hmm... I found a more detailed definition of love in another of Heinlein's books: "A subjective condition in which the happiness and well being of another is essential to one's own."
Same basic principle, but much more accurate... Love is subjective, just as beauty is.
oh, and one more: ""But he has to be dressed."... "Hmmph! You're trying to force on him your own narrow-minded, middle class, Bible belt morality. Don't think I haven't been watching." "I have not! I haven't concerned myself with his morals; I've simply been teaching him necessary customs." "Customs, morals - is there a difference? Woman, do you realize what you are doing? Here, by the grace of God and an inside straight, we have a personality untouched by the psychotic taboos of our tribe - and you want to turn him into a carbon copy of every fourth-rate conformist in this frightened land! Why don't you go whole hog? Get him a brief case an make him carry it wherever he goes - make him feel shame id he doesn't have it.""

Here are a few of the quotes that have stuck with me:
"We grok God."
"They laugh because it hurts so much... because it's the only thing that'll make it stop hurting."
"Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own."
"Certainly 'Thou art God' - but who isn't?"
