Title: Kid Voices; Adult Voices
Fandom: Loveless
Tracks: 10
About this mix: This is another one that I've been sitting on for some time. I've found myself coming back to it quite frequently, and I've decided it's time to get it out there for what's left of the Loveless fandom to enjoy. For whatever reason, Loveless remains one of my all-time favorite anime/manga series; truly, it is one of the only series that has stuck with me and remained near the surface of my mind while most other favorites have been neatly shelved away as part of my past. I think it's because Loveless is deceptively complex. Despite Yun Kouga's strange fujoshi lapses from time to time, the series has a literary quality that shines through. With this mix, I hope to capture the essence of its most central theme: Childhood and Adulthood as two distinct voices, but two sides of the same coin. The main protagonist of this mix is, of course, Ritsuka, but others contribute to the strange dream of his second life, and he is ultimately able to find a sort of peace by its conclusion. There is even a song for Ritsuka's mother, because I think she's an important figure toward the theme. (What went wrong in her life?) This mix is mainly based on the earlier arcs of the manga; roughly what's covered by the anime series and perhaps somewhat beyond. One song is intended to reference the anime-only dream sequence (episode 12). Since the series hasn't ended yet, the epilogue is my own (AU?) interpretation. The cover was designed by me using public-domain vectors for the tree and grass, and my own drawings for the silhouettes, since I couldn't find existing manga drawings that captured what I was looking for. Basically I put waaay too much work into this. But I'm happy to offer it as one fan's tribute. u.u ^_^v Please, I hope you enjoy.

Lyrics Selections
Whisper (Ritsuka (to Seimei))
I'm down to a whisper
In a daydream on a hill
Shut down to a whisper
Can you hear me still?
Eager to please,
Trying to be what they need
But I'm so very tired
I've stopped trying to find
Any peace in my mind
Because it tangles the wires
But if you keep real close
Yeah, you stay real close
I will reach you
I Don’t Love Anyone (Ritsuka)
Out in the street today
The kids are playing, having fun
I pass them by, I'm not a kid, no
I don't love anyone
I met a man today
He told me something pretty strange
There's always somebody saying something
He said, "The world is as soft as lace"
But I don't love anyone
Your Faithful Friend (Yuiko)
Try if you can and if you can't
Sing if you want and if you can't
Make a sound
Go on and on and on 'til you can't go on
And on any longer
Cry if you can and if you can't
Fall to the ground without a sound
Hold on and on and on won't you hold on
And on and on, don't you let go
‘Cause I will be around
To catch you when you're down
Hail to Whatever You Found in The Sunlight (Ritsuka, Yuiko, Soubi, general)
Hail to those who have come from the sunlight that surrounds you
Pray for those who have gone from the sunlight that surrounds you
Pretend all the good things are for you
Pretend all the good things are for me too
And the weather changes not halfway between your house and mine
Sunloathe (Ritsuka)
I loathe the sun
Sometimes I don't
Know how to love
Anything; Myself
It's hard
To recall
Hold on
To it all
I kill my memories
With a cheap
Disease
I don't want to lose this fight
I don't want to end this fight
Someday I know
I'll learn how to love
Anyone
Is enough
Beneath the Fire (Ritsuka, Soubi)
I’m tired
Of closed eyes and fumbling for horizons
I’m tired
I’m tired of your lies and color and all your mind wreck
I’m tired
As gently as you can
Hold on
This might not go as planned
Hold on
I know you feel this strain
Hold on
As violent as you can
Hold on…
There are storms beneath the fire
Bodies bruise in so many ways
Further pressed into desire
Just hold on...
What am I to desire?
Where the humble and honest way?
Trouble (Soubi)
Now I know the business of the heart
And it'll get you any way it can
You need someone to walk with in the dark, well
I'm your man
I go to the trouble like a light
Or like a dare
Trouble is just a friend to me, I know
It'll always be there
It's really hard to make your peace
So give me some credit for the hell I've paid
This world's a blessing and a beast
Every day
So come on baby let me show you how
The less you know the more I comprehend
You don't have to drag me down
I descend
Kid Fears (Misaki Aoyagi (Ritsuka’s mother))
Pain from pearls, hey little girl,
How much have you grown?
Pain from pearls, hey little girl,
Flowers for the ones you've known.
Are you on fire,
From the years?
What would you give for your
Kid fears?
Secret staircase, running high,
You had a hiding place.
Secret staircase, running low,
But they all know, now you're inside.
What would replace the rent with the stars above?
Replace the need with love?
Replace the anger with the tide?
Replace the ones, the ones, the ones, that you love?
Into The Dark (Ritsuka, all characters, Episode 12)
There were stairs, they were steep
I was falling, falling deep
You were there, you were small
There was screaming down the hall
I've been here sleeping all these years
There comes a time we all know
There's a place that we must go
Into the soul, into the heart
Into the dark
There was fire, there was death
There was lying on your breath
I turned away, I would pretend
But the burning never ends
There was a wave over the house
There was fear choked in my mouth
You were there, you left your mark
As I stumbled in the dark
It Happens Every Day (Ritsuka, epilogue)
The first part of every day for me is good
I've got the bus stop in my neighborhood
And everything's on purpose everywhere they go
Hiding in my car and running in the snow
Running with the friends they'll know for years
I've seen it all from here, from here
It happens every day, before they go to school
They play until the bus drives up beside my lawn
And there's always been a mother who waits 'til they are gone
Then she turns away
It happens every day
Noon comes and turns this campus upside down
I watch the students in this college town
You would think they're carefree, I have seen their trials
Frowning into Shakespeare and practicing their smiles
Even underlining Nabokov
When I am not in love, in love
It happens every day with their journals in cafes
Looking up at their reflection on the other wall
With every new idea wondering if they've changed at all
And then they look away
It happens every day
Well life is as hard and as easy as they say
Walking the steps we've chosen on this day
Some will be outrageous, some have rarely shown
Some will walk in couples, some will walk alone
As I think about the world I see
They stare and smile at me, at me
It happens every day at the crossing of the street
Walking out to see what's new and what is just the same
And the only word for love is everybody's name
And that will always stay
It happens every day
And every day will happen without you
