I generally enjoy that I have vivid active dreams. They often contain adventure and wonder. I do not enjoy when they become negative. They are much more difficult to recover from upon waking. It's unpleasant, but not as bad, when it is monsters and so forth, because I know they are not part of this reality. It is flat out haunting when it is ( Read more... )

Over the last year I've been hit with more than my usual quota of extremely emotionally vivid dreams, ones that even though consciously I know are dreams affect me like they are memories. So I will share with you a quote I rediscovered Friday while rereading Tolkien's Notion Club Papers:
"And, asleep, the mind, rootling about, as it does, in the days' leavings (or the week's), would inspect them again with far less distraction, and all the force of its original desire." (p. 181).

There was something about this that really resonated with me, especially given a dream I had Thursday night.
