I wonder why there isn't a community about ancient Greece and homosexuality. Not an academic community.Something about those of us who still worship the ideal of the blonde, narcissistic ephebe.

...with lovely photos of the boys too!(smiles a big Cheshire cat grin) Honestly, I think everyone is so terrified of the pedophilia issue they have gone overboard in hiding their adoration of the beauty of youth. Ryan and I have recently been absorbed in a book called The Beautiful Boy by feminist writer Germaine Greer. It is stunning. You would love it, if you don't know it already.

You make a very good point. What I find especially disgusting is the fact that GLBT organisations instead of fighting this idiotic/moralistic/Christian paranoia ,they promote it. As for the book-I've been meaning to buy it for centuries.I am sure it's amazing.

Lovely idea!
And in addition to the fabulous Germaine Greer book, let me recommend Louis Crompton's recent (2004?) tome - Homosexuality and Civilization - a fantastic study that comprehensively traces both male and female homosexuality from ancient Crete through the Enlightenment. It is neither "social-constructionist" like Foucault/Halperin, nor does it gloss over the crimes of xtianity like John Boswell.

That's another book I've been meaning to buy for centuries.I have read some articles by Crompton (at glbtq.com)and I am sure I would love his more extended works too.
