There was a Model S up there the other day! And those start at like 70k for am 85kW one, so yea while not technically a couple hundred thousand but still more than I'm likely to shell out for a car! You could get 3 of my brand new Escapes for that and have money leftover!! :P
Company is a large electric utility, they maintain a fleet of electric cars. Some for regular use, some for R&D and marketing/recruiting/encouraging public interest/whatnot. And apparently this whole letting random employees drive them is not unusual?? In which case, I'm going to label that one "employee satisfaction" as well lol! (And now that i think about it, a new bucket truck's not much cheaper, truth be told.)
When I had a company phone it was 3GS, but now that our group is fully staffed and we have an on-call rotation I really wasn't using it much anymore and turned it back in. Yay, one less expense report to fool with!
That is badass. In related badass news, I drove by their factory yesterday on my way to Santa Cruz and holy hell it is enormous. I would love to have a tour of that place sometime, I bet it's amazing!

You don't need a couple hundred thousand for a Tesla Model S, even with an 85KWH battery, but you might have to wait 6months to a year for delivery.
