Old Product, New Packaging

Happy New Year to you! I don't usually make resolutions, but I recently decided to make a change and it just so happens that I'm starting at the end of December. My resolution for 2009 is to come across as more of an adult. Note that I didn't say I'm going to start acting more like an adult. I'm already pretty responsible and I'm not interested in ( Read more... )

Some of the ways you're trying to accomplish your resolution may involve appearance, but that doesn't mean they're superficial. You've come up with some logical and fairly easy to achieve first steps. Maybe more things will occur to you later, but it sounds like a good start to me! :)

Thanks! I was aiming for easy first steps so we'll just see how this goes. =) BTW, I can't get your user pic out of my head. Too funny!

Haha, http://purplepussy.net/ if you want to read more. Btw, they're very very very dirty. I think this is one of the most NSFW comics you can read.

Leslie! I've struggled with trying to get people to take me seriously as well, and I think it didn't help that I used to look younger than my age. I don't think anyone would mistake me for a teenager now, but I guess I still dress like one... So I think that even though some of the changes you listed are superficial, like you said it can't hurt! And I think most people would agree that even just appearing confident will get you more respect. I know I need to work on that as well. I'm constantly undermining myself. Haha, maybe I should make this a goal for the new year as well! You've inspired me :)

Hey Renee! Actually, lately I've noticed that you dress like a young classy SF professional. =) Hehe. I really like your style and I don't think you dress like a teenager. But you did look super young a few years ago. I have to aspire to be more like you! And thank you for sending me that link. I'm definitely going to check it out.

Interesting resolution! Go for it. I imagine that it will be difficult to change how you're perceived at work - the change can't happen overnight, but if you're patient, I bet your professionalism will be noticed and valued.

Last year I decided to wear semi-fancy brown shoes to work (instead of my nasty ol' sneakers), and I think it actually made a difference.

Oh believe me I know change DEFINITELY won't happen overnight. But I am patient. I stopped wearing t-shirts and sneakers to the office a few months back, and I think there's already been a *slight* change because of that. Age and gender are difficult to overcome in a Japanese office.
