Title: Constantly (on AO3 & FFNet)
Fandom: Sherlock (BBC)
Rating: G
Word Count: 3,728
Summary: Mycroft Holmes set out to be nothing more than a side character in his brother's story. And he succeeded.
Genre: Angst

I first got into Sherlock BBC fandom in 2011/2012. I had never seen any of it but I was trolling AO3 for stuff to read, had been an original (as in, Arthur Conan Doyle) Sherlock Holmes fan and enjoyed the 2009 Downey film, so I just kind of fell into it and enjoyed it.

It wasn't until this year that I finally got to see all of them, and I'm really glad it took this long because for me, the fourth series made everything worthwhile. I haven't empathized with a character the way I've empathized with Mycroft Holmes, for awhile. Mostly because of the stuff that's happened in the intervening years from when I first encountered Sherlock fandom, to today. None of which I even feel comfortable about discussing even in an anonymous (inasmuch as the internet can ever be when you've had online presence, minimal as it is, for half your life now with the same psued) online forum that my family doesn't know about. But I see a lot of what Mycroft has to deal with as closely analogized with my own life. So now I'm on a Mycroft Holmes kick, and probably will be for awhile.

This was pretty short and germinated over the course of a few days, banged out in an afternoon and then posted. I'm doing a lot better with the shorter pieces than when I impose "min word limits" of 10,000 on myself. But more on that in the next post.
