I'm going to comment and completely miss the point, most likely.
It seems like what's wanted is darker characters. I mean, whenever I get into a discussion about KotOR, all I ever hear about is playing through as the Dark Side. Jak went dark, and now so is Ratchet. The Prince went dark as well. It just seems to be what's popular now.
I concur. Hence the post. Those are three characters I would have sited if it wasn't for the fact that there are HUNDREDS of these fuckers going 'dark' in order to obtain victory.
You have to be dark, brooding, and angsty to be cool?
I think it worked well in the Jak series, but with the Prince it seems like a shame. The best part about the first Prince of Persia was how bright and just amazing some of the environments were. All I've seen out of the second and third ones are dark and bland looking environments.
It's why KotOR, Fable, and the Sly series are so awesome, I think. You can actually be a good guy without all of the darkness and the brooding and so on. Do you think good-guy heroes would actually work nowadays (like the Kingdom Come Superman)?
It's all about presentation ... I agree with a lot of what you said, considering I'm writing my own comic book and stuff ... but it just depends on how they carry it off
( ... )
Aw... I like Superman, at least in Kingdom Come. He's not willing to drop his own morals and abuse his immense power, and under no circumstance will he kill. Even in the end, well, I guess that would be spoilers. He's like that pinnacle of good, kind of like how the best Jedi are supposed to be (though the prequels made them pansies *coughs*).

I say it's fucking lame and lacks diversity.
What's it say to the children, huh?!
Poor kids.
