Apples still life

I have a lot to learn when it comes to watercolor. This week in class we did some practice still lifes (still lives?) of apples. Some of my classmates accomplished some really nice effects by leaving (seemingly random) areas with less paint... I didn't succeed as much in getting a variety of tones. And there is a scribbliness to these that I don't

i like the scribbliness. i like when art media is used in a way different from how it's traditionally used.
