A good article from the other day. Gives a different perspective on the situationThere is a group on Facebook called End AIG. I suppose people are so outraged over the bonuses that they just want to see the company die. People are just so preoccupied with their tax dollars going to these bailouts and bonuses, that they just stopped using their ( Read more... )

i hear ya. To be honest...i think AIG is just the poster child for all the companies who have done this because just about every big corporation has given ridiculous bonuses and salaries. Hell, even our own government just took a mass of people to Italy for a powwow which cost about $10K each. I think that since there's so much hoopla over AIG that people forget about all the other companies who were doing the same thing. I remember when we were buying our house--wells fargo was trying to get us to take a bigger loan. Admittedly i was like ooooh, they're giving us more money--thankfully Anna was smarter about it...but think of how many people took those loans that had them spending above their means. Most companies were doing it.

Unfortunately its big business greed ...hell, it was our own greed that got us into this mess

thank you!

The root of this mess is all the mortgages. I know people were complaining about the govt bailing out the people who could not pay up, I was one of them. But again, when you realize that if the govt hadn't intervened we'd be in a worse mess you just accept it. Life just isn't fair I guess.

Definitely...but the media would have you believe that our economic turmoil is the result of none other than AIG. I bet the car companies and other companies who are equally responsible are thrilled this is taking the heat off them...

I mean grant it...i was pissed to hear about these bonuses...but other companies are up to the same shit. Some other company that was bailed out spent $1 mill having Sheryl Crowe come and play and a lavish dinner for top execs. WTF?

Yeah that doesn't make sense to just end AIG. Some people are just stupid.

totally agree with ya... people hear that a screwed company gives its head honchos lotsa money, so the ENTIRE company should go belly up??? wtf? It's like people wanting France to collapse in the late 1700s because of Louis XiV...

Yeah I mean AIG is not on my top fav list at the moment, but like Suz said there are other companies and agencies that have done the same thing, just seems AIG is more publicized as of late so they are getting the brunt of it all.

I think you make a good point. Putting even more people out of work doesn't help the overall picture, either. Guess who helps pay their unemployment? (I think? Hm maybe not.)

My kneejerk reaction was oh good, tax the piss out of the bonuses, but then I thought about how sinister it is that a government could just change the rules mid game at their discretion. In this case, perhaps a good idea...but where is the line drawn?

Right, just like taking the bonuses away completely is like breaking a contract and what does that say to people?

It's a very complicated situation and I just get irritated that people react before they think.

I just can't believe that such excessive bonuses were contracted without being linked to company performance. No one...NO ONE...should be guaranteed a bonus without producing, especially at the level of VP, etc. These are the people being paid the big salaries and are expected to be held accountable for the company's well-being. That was very careless, in my opinion.

But, it seems ridiculous that people want to see a company close. Business keeps this world going, even sometimes bad business. Some people are just ignorant and those who are saying probably don't even understand why they are saying it.

Yeah I'm not sure the exact reasons all these people were due to get bonuses given that the company was going downhill when the contracts were signed. Who knows.

But it sure does irk me when people complain about it when (like you said) they don't even understand why they are saying it lol
