Far From The Tree.

Anya was assigned a project: to choose her favorite book, prepare a bit to tell the class about why it is her favorite book, and make a visual aid. I found the slip in her folder over the weekend; she didn't mention it until Sunday, and then only in passing. I asked what book she planned to discuss and she told me, and described her plan to make a ( Read more... )

We have very similar work habits. My drafting process is almost entirely in my head. You can't put what I do in there on paper. The closest thing I do to a draft is that when I write a paper, I can count on anywhere from the first paragraph to the first 20% to be thrown out. But I don't and never did do that as a separate draft. I go back and re-write it as soon as I've finished with the ending. The stuff after that only gets proofed for spelling and grammar mistakes.

Nine year old me would still be working on that on the way to school. Or, possibly in other classes earlier in the day. I mostly managed to quit doing that by maybe 6th or 7th grade.

I'd rather try and teach a dog to whistle any day, but that's me.

I work the same way. I am NOT a writer in any sense if the word. I wrote my senior research paper in chiropractic school in 1 day. The instructor usually fails several people. I was worried since I did not put much work into it. I was happy walking out with a "C".

Since I work in Academia, I am often asked how I studied for exams. I do warn students NOT to do as I did. It was a wait until the last minute cram session often the day of the exam.

YES. I retain the information. It is just my method.

I am the same way with writing, but with a visual project, I'd be like P.

I write on the fly. I hated the process as laid out by teachers. I also remember the first time I got to write on a computer. And my hands could keep up with my brain. Still naked me happy.
